Hunter Renfro hasn't proven he can play in the NFL.  Thus he is far cheaper.

True as any player on their initial contract is. My point is that you can find receivers beyond the early first round or spending big in FA or a trade.   Other teams do it.

Now it’s not a huge deal right now because these types of decisions are not costing  them from retaining their good players on second contracts.

Do you need a crying towel?

Why?  I’m just a fan of the team but I’m not going to give Robinson a free pass.  He’s boxed himself into the QB situation we have and now it’s very much in question beyond 2019.

You know what? This, coupled with Vrabel trolling Belichick in our game with them this year, coupled with us beating the snot out of them in that game... just about totally makes up for that 59-0 shel

Humphries emphasized in his press conference about how his word was a huge factor in his decision.  I believe that.  It’s therefore safe to assume that if NE had initially offered more than the Titans (which they didn’t), he likely would be in NE.  If he was he’ll bent on playing here no matter what then Robinson should have been able to get him for less than what he paid.

saying all of this, the bigger problem is that slot guys can be found on day 2 or 3.  Why not draft Hunter Renfrew on day 2 or 3 at a fraction of the cost or find another Humphries or Doug Baldwin in UDFA.

Pretty sure we been trying to do this for about ummm 20 years now.If u haven't noticed our wrs aren't all that great and Taylor drops to many balls.Humphries is $,runs great routes and dropped 1 outta 80 balls last year.Just saying calm down buddy

Taylor will be fine. He works hard and he's got skills. Mariota's injury was a big deal last year for not just the number of pass plays called but the ability fo the offense to throw balls that were not rhythm 1st/2nd option throws.

Still need some height and another speedster at the position though.

That guy can be a #4 if Taywan steps up to #3 and compete for #2.

This idea that 4 year vet Adam Humphries is going to mentor Davis and Taylor as they enter year 3 is so over the top.  Humphries fills a big need but it’s one that other teams fill for a lot less than 9 m per year when they draft those guys.

The "experienced vet" angle isn't about mentoring Corey and Taywan. it's about getting a guy who doesn't need to spend a year or two figuring things out and acclimating to the league. Humphries, due to his experience, will be able to step in day 1 and be a reliable, chain-moving target for Mariota. Could we draft a guy of comparable talent in the mid-rounds? Sure. Would that guy be ready to play at Humphries's level of consistency on day 1? Highly doubtful. We can still draft a guy like that and cut Humphries in 2 years when that guy is ready to contribute but we need reliable targets for Mariota now. You should like this more than anyone since if Mariota fails this season there are no acceptable excuses now.

Oh bullshit. Jrob created a relationship with him in Tampa. It wasn't just "his word." I'm sure loyalty plays a big factor in his decision, as much or more than some verbal agreement over the phone. Jrob offered him a contract based on his production. He also offered him a job in Tampa based on what he saw in the guy. This is as much a thank you for Jrob's belief in him as it is anything else.

And MAYBE, just maybe, he wanted to go work for a guy who is partially responsible for the success in his career, in a locker room that's built on work ethic and character, and not for a team that drops its talent when they ask to get paid and not for a team that gets accused of cheating literally every year.

Definitive slot guy

The Titans thought they might have a shifty slot receiver last season when they added Michael Campanaro during the offseason. But Campanaro never made it to the regular season, as he was placed on injured reserve in August and released in October.

As a result, the Titans didn’t really have a go-to slot guy during the 2018 season.

Corey Davis wound up leading the Titans with 27 slot receptions, 19 first downs and 301 yards, per Sportradar stats. Davis averaged 4.3 yards after catch on those slot receptions. The next-closest Titans player in slot receptions was Darius Jennings with nine catches for 88 yards.

But all that is likely to change this season with the addition of Humphries, one of the most talented — and position-specific — slot receivers in the NFL.

Here is how Humphries stacked up among receivers aligned in the slot last year: first in receiving first downs (42); tied for second with JuJu Smith-Schuster in receptions (59); fifth in receiving yards (666); second in total yards after the catch (319) behind Smith-Schuster; ninth in average yards after catch (5.4).
