NE is 7th in passer rating defense and the Rams are 16th.

The top 5 features 2 teams that lost their first game and 3 teams that missed the playoffs.

NE was 10th in scoring defense the Rams 19th

Rams held opponents to:

37% 3rd down, 2.75 td/gm,  got 41 sacks (half of which from the DPOY), +11 on turnover ratio.

They were #3 in INT, #4 in yards, #12 FF.

Aaron Donald = an extra man on dline. Gurley = an extra man in the box. The formula hasn't changed. You just need to ALSO be able to score points.

Good balance will still trump everything. You just can't totally rely on a great defense to get you the Lombardi.

This. Situational defense and TOs are far more important if you have a high flying offense.

You can definitely argue that the Patriots defense is what won them the SB this year, for sure. And their run game. Brady played a good game (well, Edelman did!). Both teams played pretty good defense, but the Rams did NOTHING. That's pretty surprising, based on their season stats.

Combination good defense and terrible offense from both teams

The Patriots ranked seventh in the NFL in scoring defense this season. The Rams were the 11th highest-scoring team in NFL history.

This marked the 46th time in 53 Super Bowls that a team that finished in the top 10 in scoring defense won the Lombardi Trophy, according to Rick Gosselin of the Talk of Fame Network.

The Rams’ loss now means none of the 11 highest-scoring teams in NFL history won a championship, per Gosselin.

The Pats game plan exposed Goff for what he is. A young QB who is overly reliant on his HC to diagnose the play presnap. I would argue McVay brought this on himself.

And the absence of Gurley at 100%.
