8 seems drastic

These players seem to get pretty roundly criticized:

OFFENSE

Ben Jones

Josh Kline

Quentin Spain

Deion Lewis

Luke Stocker

Tajae Sharp (non-factor)

Taywan Taylor (non-factor)

Cameron Batson (non-factor)

Blaine Gabbert

Marcus Mariota (coming back in 2019 but after that?)

4 backup OL who are backing up such under-performers in the interior of the OL

DEFENSE

Brian Orakpo (has to be replaced so a zero where a starter once resided is absolutely a weak spot)

Derick Morgan

Wesley Woodyard (has been stalwart but the tank is low)

Austin Johnson (meh)

Da'Quan Jones (meh)

Bennie Logan (meh)

3 backup DL who have not show much except maybe Kilgo

Kendrick Lewis

It's not really hard to find 6-8; is it for you?

After listening with Pees talk about how hard his system is to learn going after a veteran like Za'Darius Smith who played in the scheme makes the obvious choice.

Shitting on tolar might be the only thing that brings TR together.

We don't have a weak roster, there is no way a weak roster wins 9 games the last two years with such limited production from the QB position.   What we do lack is elite talent.

Yes. Theres no point listing backups. They are backups for a reason. Starter wise we are sitting pretty good on defense except at one OLB spot. Landry will get a bigger role. The DL play two gap so they take up blockers, outside of Casey many DL dont get alot sacks in this system.

On offense thats a different story. It all hinges on Mariota.

There is a point in listing backups because they are half the roster and the discussion is a weak roster. If you have starters in whom you are disappointed, the fact is that the backups have not beaten them out and so are not better-- sometimes that is just inexperience but they still don't strengthen the position.

The only backup that matters on that list is Gabbert and he wouldn’t even matter if Mariota would stop with the freak injuries.

Our roster is weak? Not really. We could add a few pieces to make us truly dominant, but outside of that, we are pretty fucking good.

No team is going to have superstars top to bottom, which is what you are implying.

I said 6-8 and listed all the probable suspects to buttress the argument that 6-8 is not unrealistic. Everyone has different opinions, of course, and that is okay.

Why the fuck is this guy naming backups as reasons for the rosters being weak?

Because injuries are a reality and it's "next man up" around the league. In case you forgot,  backups are on the roster!!

Recognize these names: Marcus Mariota, Delanie Walker, Jurrell Casey, Jonnu Smith,  Jack Conklin, Jonathan Cyprien, Taylor Lewan, David Fluellen, Wesley Woodyard? All are or have been starters who have missed time in the past couple of years.

Who knows... but I do know that we gave up shots at 5-6 players who could have been solid contributors by trading that draft slot away. At any selection, there are almost always better players taken later-- never mind the Tom Brady Exception-- which proves the Rule.

Webster followed your theory. And for most of his picks we got stiffs.

It does seem like Webster quickly started taking a strategy of getting the guy he wanted instead of settling for whoever fell into his lap.  The only way to evaluate what Webster has done of late is to let guys like Evans and Landry have some time to develop.  In hindsight I wish Webster had traded the two of those 2nd round picks to move up in the first (and still drafted Henry in the 2nd).  Hypothetically 33 and 43 have enough value to move us into the first round as early as pick 15.  In other words we could have drafted some one like Will Fuller instead of Dodd and Johnson.  So using Charlie's 20/20 approach...…

Chris Jones and Michael Thomas would be my redo with those two picks...(we can dream).

I don't know why you guys are engaging Trollar on this topic.  He goes on and on about this every few months.

... or keep pretending that everything is fine. Why is it okay for one side to "go on" but a dissenting opinion can  not? I should also point out that we have followed this pattern every draft season. Did you see the Ballard thread? He's done more with less and is in a better  cap situation...

Some of you guys are such homers that you think whatever we do is fine and, oh, by the way Mawae was like a Titan for life.. and not a smidgen of Oiler either!
