Popular Post begooode
Repubs had a deal with Dems: 30bil for wall funding locked up in exchange for a path for DACA. Graham was giddy, then Steven Miller squealed to Coulter & Co. and Trump kiboshed it. Now Repubs are left holding their dick with nothing to show for their 2 years of shitting on people. It’s 2019 and they find themselves on the wrong side of public sentiment for the wall and DACA. The Dems are on even footing, and demonstrating leadership/resolve. The courts are quashing hurried deportation decisions re: DACA, so the repubs have lost leverage there, too. repubs are damaged goods on immigration legislation and Trump is to blame. So it looks like the Dems are in the drivers seat on border security and DACA for the next 2 years, but Mr Butthurt is calling them stupid. If the Dems are stupid, it sure is a good thing those real smart republicans weren’t able to take advantage of them and actually put forward and execute an agenda. You know, lead the country. ctm
If Trump were smart, he wouldn't have said on Friday that on Feb 15th that if he doesn't get his wall that he will either shut down the government again or declare a national emergency. Neither of which will work out well and make him look weak once again. He's doubling down to his conservative base. Prepare to be humiliated once again if he follows through. I think Trump's veto of any border security/immigration bill on Feb. 15th is effectively neutered. He just can't use it to shut down the government again. The question then becomes will senate republicans dare to filibuster a House bill passed by Pelosi. If they do and funding lapses again, then the shutdown is on them. If they are hesitant to use the filibuster, then the power to shape the bill goes to Pelosi.

You mean like over the summer when democratic leadership agreed to AA deal for all $25B for a wall in exchange for legalizing the daca kids which Trump said he wanted to do anyway And allowing some restrictions on legal immigration and then Trump backed out at the last minute because of Stephen Miller? Given you are so much smarter than us I'm sure you knew all about that. pat, OILERMAN, rns90, and 4 others

Even if it eventually survives a challenge it would likely be after his first term. If it does go through Trump has just opened a giant can of worms that can be exploited by the Democrats to enact some of their pet policies, or by someone in the future who is really looking for a way to nefariously circumvent congress due to an "emergency." This. Republicans are playing with fire. They won’t be in power forever. If they go this route, they will be pissed when a dem uses it to his advantage. Granted it was not the full two years, but he did enjoy the super majority in the senate for a year. They had a theoretical supermajority for about 3 months. Arlen Specter switched parties a few months into the term. Then Franken didn’t get seated until the summer of 2009, theoretically giving them 60 votes. But Ted Kennedy died and wasn’t replaced for a few months. And Robert Byrd was busy dying, too, so they had to wheel him in to vote to pass Obamacare. And they were counting on a bunch conservative Democrats and independents, too. Any of them could (and did) block anything they deemed too liberal. Like they blocked Medicare expansion.
