Arthur Smith promoted to OC

Recommended Posts

Every new OC has to start somewhere. Smith has no background to judge his ability as an OC from but we will just have to wait and see how he does. No reason for pessimism. And he knows Mariota and the other players already so he isn’t starting from square 1.

The good news? He's too goofy looking to get hired away after 1 year.

I honestly think that weighed heavily in Vrabel's decision. Well not how he looks...but whether or not he'd get hired away after 1 year.

I told you guys today was a good day to hire an OC!

Really though, good hire.

Kind of weird how it was handled though.

This hire made the most sense with Mariota entering his prove it year.  I'm not certain that Smith is still the OC after the season.

This is a key element to me. We don't have someone new coming in and starting from scratch with his theory of how to "fix" the offense based on watching some film. Smith's been here in some capacity since 2011 and involved with the offense since 2012 so he should have a good idea about how things have gone and what should be done.

That's more important than yet another set of fresh eyes in this case.

I think he deserves a fair shot.

That said, the front office handled this very poorly.

How?  By not filling in the fans?

He will be unless he gets hired as a HC (unlikely).

It’s strange that people think the only position continuity is important for is QB.

With his family's wealth it's hard to believe he'll get lured away by a fat payday too.
