Not even close.  LaFluer had some experience calling preseason games and was heavily involved where ever  he went.

Oh ok..preseason. Wow we have some very uninformed people on this site. Bitch and whine about anything, especially things you have ZERO insight into.

Like I said, they made this hire for Marcus. Seems like Smith has been helping Marcus all along as his mentor and liaison between all these coaches and OCs.

Right.  They made this hire for Mariota and his biggest cheerleaders are complaining about it...

?

That’s quite the stretch. His mentor and laison? Lol.

Sorry guys but while Smith is good for continuity overall, this hire isn’t just about Mariota.

Smith is a run game guy first and this is about continuity in that arena and for the rest of the players as much as it is about Mariota.

People say “Oh this is Mariota’s 5th OC in 5 years”. Ok. It’s Delanie Walker’s 7th I believe. And Lewan’s 5th. Spain’s 4th. Etc.

All players need continuity to develop and grow, not just Mariota.

Mariota is just along for the ride this year. The Titans need to make sure they run the ball successfully and do a good job at scheming his first read open. It’s as simple as that.

You think we’ve run the ball a lot the last 3 years?

Guess what.

It’s going to be more running the ball a lot this year too folks.

If they lose, everybody is on the hot seat.  Vrabel, JRob, Miss Amy

But only @8MM is willing to say something.

It's low hanging fruit. Why belabor an obvious caveat? Of course losing is going to put people on the hot seat. But you're crazy if you think Vrabel or JRob will be fired after the 2019 season if things don't go well next year. It would take the bottom falling out in a massive, craptacular way for that to happen. And judging from JRob and Vrabel both that shit ain't happening with this team. They're getting players back next year they lost (Walker, Ryan, etc) and adding pieces in free agency/the draft that will only help to elevate the team further.

This team will be in the playoffs next year. Book it.

Marcus said it in a damn interview. It was just tweeted out. Said he's been there for him this whole time. He's been continuity for the offense.

Along for the ride? It’s Mariota’s make or break year. Come on, now.

The Smith hire is almost certainly the best-case scenario for Marcus...but anyone who listened to JRob’s comments a couple weeks ago knows JRob no longer assumes Marcus represents the future of the franchise.

Marcus will surely benefit from the continuity factor...but the decision wasn’t  made for him.  Smith was promoted because JRob felt he was the best candidate to run the offense for the foreseeable future, regardless of who’s under center.

If we hired a big time OC and then he left to be a head coach the next year, that would be disastrous. Arthur Smith was promoted with continuity in mind for Marcus and for the future.
