Exactly this, think Matt Miller made a poor choice of words in using extinct, they just aren't valued across the league as they used to be, and teams are certainly going to be reluctant to use premium draft picks on them if they don't seriously disrupt the QB on regular basis.

If Lawrence doesn't do this is there really justification to take him at 19 then? You wouldn't draft a JAG dlineman 19, right? He needs to be collapsing the pocket regularly, especially at 6'4 350lbs. And if that's the kind of guy he is it probably wouldn't mean much scheme wise because he'd stay on the field.

I think what he is referring to is that defenses are in nickle defenses with more pass rushers on the field more and more now and that there is not as much of a need for a 350 lb. NT.

There's always going to be a premium need for big fatties who can routinely get pressure.

Yes. I want a NT that takes up blockers to free up our ILBs and Casey to disrupt.

Lawrence had 33 QB pressures last year.  More than Wilkins.  He also is great at scraping and getting off tackles.  He's not just a man mover that overpowers weaker guys at the college level, though he can do that too.

Having said that, I'm leary of the Clemson DL guys.  I love them.  I have major man crushes, but I tend to agree with @AussieTitanFan08, that the collective has elevated the whole.  Plus, I'm still bummed from Dodd.

Also, I've seen some mocks where Lawrence could be had in the 2nd round.  I'm not sure the value is there at 19 but if he drops to 51, I hope they've done their homework.

The way I see it, like any other school and position you can find the bad with the good.  Sammy Watkins has been way more hype than production.  One of the best WRs in the entire NFL is Hopkins.  Lawson and Beasley haven't been horrible but not great.  Grady Jarrett has been very good.  Just shows the draft is a crap shoot.  You aren't guaranteed a great player if you select from any school.  It is all about the kid.  I do think Wilkins is going to be a good one and Lawrence could be very good as well.  At worst with Lawrence you have a great NT IMO against the run but I still say he is as effective helping push the pocket.  Either would be a real good pick IMO.

Lawrence isn't lasting until our 2nd round pick IMO but could get close enough JRob could consider a trade up.  He would be worth moving up for as his fit in our defense makes him a 1st round value for us.

This is the guy I hope the Titans draft, true difference maker for this defense. Trade down a few spots and draft Lawrence.

So we should trade down and let the Steelers, Ravens or Texans have him?  Seahawks might have an interest as well.  If he is there when #19 comes up I say you pull the trigger unless there is someone else.   Heck, the team trading with us might be doing so to take the guy.

All true, it's the dream of unrealistic fans like me to trade down and still get the guy you want.

He’s the guy most Titans fans seem to want which means we aren’t getting him. JRob will draft some wildcard player nobody was suspecting. That’s his MO

What they hell are you talking about? There was a big group including myself that wanted Conklin, Davis and Landry

How about many who wanted Landry or Evans and ended up with both.  Conklin maybe less so just because we didn't know where he was going to be available.  We did trade up to get him after trading out of the #1 spot.

Looking back I think we take whatever top DT that fell to us. Had Simmons gone to the Dolphins or Giants we would have taken either Wilkins or Lawrence whomever was still on the board.

With Casey coming off the knee injury and Austin Johnson being a disappointment we considered that a need position. Neither of our free agents DTs(Logan, Williams) worked out. I think we were going DT one way or another with that pick.
