I would be surprised if he goes before 19, he is a huge run stuffing NT with limited pass rushing ability, would only be a two down player in the NFL. He has also just copped a PED suspension that will see him miss the CFB playoffs, which will likely hurt his draft stock. Not sure why quite a few people here want to use a premium pick on a 2 down player, there are going to be so many better defensive players for us to pick at #19. We watched Nelson and company blow out the middle of our D constantly Sunday night. The gained 5 and 6 yds. a pop straight up the middle om 1st and 2nd down. We could not stop it. We are a true run stopping NT and a elite pass rusher away from becoming an elite defense. If this kid can be a Haloiti Ngata, or hell even a Brandon Williams, and we are able to address pass rusher in FA, we become elite on D. Plus 19 is not an premium pick. If there is an elite player available at 19, sure take him, but that is doubtful. Fill a need that stops teams such as indy from getting to 2nd and 4, 3rd and 2. A player that can help create 2nd and 8, 3rd and 6. Edited January 2, 2019 by BeedoeLaw

Not arguing we need a run stuffer, what i'm arguing is spending a first round pick on one, it's a waste using a premium pick on a guy that will only play 2 downs, can find run stuffers in later rounds. I want to end the problem. If he is the best one, grab him. End it.

Pass rusher and WR are the only position I would consider more important as a need. I doubt there will be anyone that makes an immediate impact available at 19 since those are premium positions. If Lawrence can sure up the middle of our D and take up blockers allowing Evans, Woodyard, and Brown to make tackles without having to take on blockers, his impact would be invaluable. Interior OL is another possibility, but hopefully we fill that need in FA. There is not a FA available this year with Lawrence's size. Plus we are young enough at WR and pass rusher, we need veteran help. Edited January 2, 2019 by BeedoeLaw

Can see your conviction is strong here, just look at the Bucs taking Vita Vea at pick 12 in the 2018 Draft, he wasn't the cure for their rushing defense, they still ranked in the bottom 7 in the league. For our defense to become "elite" we have to be able to get pressure on the QB with only 4 guys, Dexter Lawrence will do absolutely nothing to help that because he will be sitting on the bench on 3rd down. I agree with this, but if they run it for 5 or 6 on 1st down, and short quick throws are all that's needed to get the first, we are going to end up giving up 90+ yard drives like the two we gave up to indy to start the game. If there is an elite pass rusher there at 19, sure I say take him, but that's a pipe dream if you ask me. We are better off trying to address that in FA. BeedoeLaw
We finished 6th against the pass, 18th against the run. Looks like to me we need to fix our run defense to become elite.

There a going to be guys in this draft class that can be had at pick #19 that will be good starters at OLB once they adjust to the NFL, and are going to be better than any other edge guy we currently have under contract except Harold Landry. Guys like Montez Sweat, Jaylon Ferguson, Oshane Ximines, Brian Burns are probably going to come off the board in the 16-40 range and would provide a talent injection to our OLB group. I would rather add a vet FA to go along with the young guys we already have, preferably Dee Ford, Shane Ray, Shaq Barrett, Zeke Ansah, or ZaDarius Smith. Clowney would be ideal, but I'm doubtful he comes free. There are options in FA to boost the pass rush, but I don't see a viable option to give us the presence we need at NT to do what needs to be done in a 3-4 defense. DecepticonShawn
All the scouting reports i read about the guy say that he actually can rush the passer well for a nt. I was big on him early in the draft process but after the ped shit i doubt we go after him.
