Trump names Mulvaney Chief of Staff

Just a temporary appointment. Mulvaney wouldn't take the job but agreed to take it temporarily so Trump could change the conversation away from his inability to find anyone that wants the job... besides Kushner.

Just now, Justafan said:

“It sends a clear message that at this critical time the president would choose to elevate the architect of the last Republican government shutdown,” said Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill.

Nice phrasing. That's why Pelosi is a good politician.

It's clear they've framed the looming shutdown and completely controlled the narrative.  Not that it's difficult because everything they've said is true.

Trump is going to fold like a deck of cards anyway.

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/12/14/trump-border-wall-fight-delay-1064857

"President Donald Trump is mulling the prospect of making a counter-offer to Democratic leaders that would prevent a partial government shutdown and kick the border wall fight into next year"

The congressional Republicans have once again managed to get the moron to push his wall demands further down the road. You'd think even Trump would be smart enough to figure out that Pelosi becoming speaker in January pretty much kills any chance of getting his wall funded... apparently not.

Does he really want it anymore? Or does he just want it to seem like someone else's fault it won't happen?

He might see it as sort of his legacy if he thinks about that sort of thing.

Earlier this year, democrats proposed 25B for border security (no wall) in exchange for DACA protections.  Trump had said he would take any immigration deal put on his desk, and then turned this deal down.

He's not concerned about border security, he's interested in fulfilling his campaign promise.  That 's why he won't compromise on the wall and take other, more cost effective, forms of border security.  Even republicans refuse to fund his wall.  They know its a stupid idea.

There are portions of the wall that need to be funded, anyone with common sense knows this.  This is not giving a political win or taking a political loss.  5 billion is chump change the way these bastards use the national credit card.

A wall is a lot less cost effective than fencing or electronic surveillance.

I think Trump wants it as more of a political rallying cry than he wants an actual wall or even to fulfill a campaign promise. He thinks it’s a good part of his stump speech and he can woo the suckers with it. And republicans can attack democrats for opposing it.

Yeah. He wants another binary wedge issue to divide voters.

Shouldn't be difficult but this is the Democratic party we talkin about. Been getting their asses handed to them on messaging for years.
