2019 Draft News and Rumors

Recommended Posts

Think JRob has done a decent job getting solid across the board depth on the roster, what we lack is "elite" talent at individual positions.

Entering the draft he is in a position where there is a serviceable starter in place in every spot, it's time to start taking BPA rather than what he has done his first 3 drafts which is BPA at position of need.

If that position happens to be a C/OG/TE/IDL rather than Edge so be it.

Would much prefer he took Simmons/Hockenson/Bradbury/Ford/Lindstrom than Ferrell/Wilkins/Lawrence who might be seen to play a position of more immediate need.

I agree with the lack of elite in most positions and I am on board with trying to draft that potential type. I just do not think that IOL requires that type of talent. Out of the players you mentioned, I prefer Lawrence. I think if he is evaluated as an elite talent, it is hard to turn away from a 340 lb inside presence. Casey should be that much more productive, as would edge guys because it would be hard to double any of them. Of course, that assumes Lawrence is awesome and not just an overweight guy. I do not have the talent to personally evaluate players but I absolutely like the concept of a huge Tackle to solidify the line.

This is why you take Bosa or Ramsey instead of trading down for much lesser players

When he first took over as GM the roster was in that bad a shape I can understand that all those picks trading back from 1 would of been enticing, entering this draft it is a totally different proposition, there is a solid core of players on this roster, now its time to start adding guys who can be "elite" at their individual positions.

The Chargers are an example of a franchise who have done a great job recently just drafting good players that fall into their laps regardless of need/positional importance.

Elite differencing making players always trump extra draft picks and role/average players. RTs/RBs and Austin Johnson are a dime a dozen regardless of the shape of the roster

I’m guessing some of you forget he traded up for elite talent last year.

That doesn't change passing on Bosa/Ramsey for much lesser positions/players

And it's TBD on how elite Evans or Landry are.

His goal was to change the combination of a losing franchise stuck in ineptitude with a country club feel into a contender. He’s done his job.

Evans/Landry have the potential to be very good but i'm not sure they were considered potentially elite prospects.

Just think if a guy like Simmons who is a top 5 talent in this year draft drops into our laps this year due to his injury JRob should take him even if it means potentially waiting till 2020 to see him on the field.

Same goes for guys like Bradbury/Hockenson/Ford/Lindstrom while C/TE/RG aren't exactly glaring immediate holes that need to be filled, why not grab a prospect that could be potentially elite at their position if they are available at #19.

I would take Simmons over any of the IOL. That guy has the chance to be a game changer.

So if we had one of those guys, Bosa or Ramsey, we would be a better team?  Minus the extra picks?  I'd say that is very debatable.  One guy doesn't make a team.  How are the Cardinals doing with Patrick Peterson at CB?  The only guy I don't take that trade for is a QB if we needed one.  In fact the Chargers at 12-4 had a better season with Bosa having only 5.5 sacks and playing less than a half season (wow, how did that even happen).  And how did the Jags do with all their high flyers including Ramsey.

Traditionally the teams that really do well are the ones who through luck or skill find superstars all over the draft.  Like Byard.

This idea we can have trash except for a few Bosa's has been proven wrong every year since the NFL started.  Yet we have experts claiming that all the time?

Wow, so there are about a dozen elite players in this draft..   Yea, hope we get one......

People just don't get it.  Year after year after year the same thing happens.  Look back 3-5 years and check it out.

All those super studs listed before the draft are what?  Decent player maybe....  some suck, some are out of the league.

And guess what.  There are studs dotted all through the draft.  Gee where were AB taken, or Bell?  The Steelers had two superstars they took no where close to the top 10.

The discussion is more based around switching from a BPA at a position of need mentality that JRob has run with to a BPA strategy.

There is no doubt while building a solid core to the roster JRob has passed on higher rated players to draft guys that have filled holes in the roster, that philosophy isn't as relevant now the roster has a more solid foundation.
