Democratic Nomination for 2020 - UPDATED to include those who have officially announced

Most of those wild and crazy socialist policies make perfect sense, and it's only the prospect of "illegal" immigrants benefiting that causes people to flip out.

Here's a hint, better they come here than shipping industry out of the country.  Restricting labor movement serves the feudalist rent seeking wealthy.

I'm no politician and this going to be shocking to some of you, but when capital moves more easily than labor it's the working people who get the shaft.

Immigrants feed America.  No need to be afraid.

“Top former Obama administration officials are warning Democratic presidential candidates to back off from their proposals to decriminalize border crossings, saying that it's bad policy and a surefire general election loser that gives President Trump an opening on immigration.

In an op-ed in The Washington Post this week, former Obama Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said that decriminalization would attract hundreds of thousands of new migrants to the southern border. He described the proposal as "tantamount to declaring publicly that we have open borders."

“Several of former President Obama's top homeland security officials interviewed by The Hill went on the record to express shock and dismay after eight of the 10 Democratic presidential contenders on stage at the second night of the debate raised their hands when asked if they support the decriminalization of border crossings.”

Yep, but seemingly it is our fault for noting how idiotic it is not only policy wise but politically to say these things. Some of these posters need to get a grip, and by some really I only mean one.

It’s just almost as if a lot of these candidates *want* to lose to Trump. Or don’t really care as long as they make their ideological point.

Really though. I think Jeh's wrong. This wouldn't be a big deal (i.e. increase immigration by hundreds of thousands) as it's actually been proposed.

If you look at his points from his WaPo opinion piece

Quote

Second, we cannot, as some Democratic candidates for president now propose, publicly embrace a policy to not deport those who enter or remain in this country illegally unless they commit a crime. This is tantamount to a public declaration (repeated and amplified by smugglers in Central America) that our borders are effectively open to all; this will increase the recent levels of monthly apprehensions at our Southern border — about or more than 100,000 — by multiples. For the same reason, we cannot formally decriminalize unauthorized entry into this country, though first-time illegal border crossers are in fact rarely prosecuted for that misdemeanor (except for last year’s disastrous “zero-tolerance” policy).

This is where I think he's misrepresenting the issue. He's saying if you only deport criminals, and then say unauthorized border-crossing isn't a crime then you can't deport people. But that's not the proposal as I have seen it.

Decriminalizing these border-crossings doesn't mean the people are not subject to deportation. As he mentions, the illegal border-crossers were not even prosecuted for that crime, yet they were still deported.

Castro, who was the one who initially brought up the proposal in the debate, has said it would still be a civil offense. Removing the potential criminal penalty removes the ability to do what Trump has done, which Jeh says is bad.

This first quote from his WaPo piece is how he describes the Obama system he ran:

Quote

The Obama administration’s immigration priorities for deportation included both those who committed major crimes and those who were apprehended at the Southern border. Those apprehended at the border were allowed to remain this country while their deportation and asylum cases proceeded to conclusion.

This Vox article explains the system when border-crossing is decriminalized:

Quote

[Under the Castro proposal], an immigrant crossing into the US without papers, whether he was seeking asylum in the US or coming for some other reason, would not be committing a federal crime. If caught by Border Patrol agents, she’d be detained for a brief amount of time, but if she didn’t raise any red flags, she’d be released into the US (with a case management system to check up on her whereabouts) pending an immigration hearing. If she didn’t qualify for some form of legal status like asylum, she’d still ultimately be ordered deported from the US.

Sounds... pretty similar, no?

Careful @tgo, you’ll be called alt right if you agree with him, but Tim Pool has made several videos recently summarizing a lot of what you’re saying.

Instead of rightfully trying to steal votes away from Trump to actually win the election- the left has instead opted for divisive, extremist takes that only pander to a demographic that’s already going to vote blue and likely push moderates Red in 2020.  But yeah, how about those trans abortion rights and reparations!  😂

I think this video deserves to be listened to.

The biggest thing that can be done for the families coming over seeking asylum is provide assistance in their home countries with climate change and help them grow crops and fix those issues. Trump ended this when he became president. It's gotten way worse under Trump.

Just at the start... He says Tulsi Gabbard and Yang are the candidates people like.

Does anyone here believe that?

He's a complete joke and completely dishonest.

All he does is trash democrats and is constantly backing the case for Trump support("Orange man bad"). Dems are fighting for Transgenders abortion rights? Dems want open borders!

He's making the immigration case that got the Republicans creamed in the mid terms. I'd like to know why this guy thinks 3 million Trump voters voted straight Dem in the mid terms?

He supported Bernie last time and now dropped Bernie and is supporting Yang and Gabbard. Yang and Gabbard are polling at 1 and 0%, GTFO. He just setting up the narrative the "fake media" is cheating again like last time.

This dude is a right wing shill, I saw many people make the same claim too
