That said even Wilson as great as he is was getting destroyed behind their porous (Tom Cable Special) o-line the past couple years, the line has looked way better this year and surprise the Seahawks are a legit playoff threat again. He has good plays and bad plays. Sometimes he does an excellent job navigating the pocket, other times he steps into pressure. All quarterbacks have these types of plays, some are better at it than others, but Rogers, Brady and the like have drifted into pressure many times. The criteria isn't so binary with him: He does or doesn't. It's more about "frequency" - it may happen too often. However it's greatly exacerbated by an OL that too often demands excellent movement within the pocket to find a place to throw. Mariota is significantly better in pocket movement/awareness than someone like Derek Carr (who struggled with it in college too). He's not Russell Wilson (who I agree is an excellent pocket QB who has a poor OL), but he's not fundamentally flawed in that way. Personally I think he needs to improve, but I think it will be helped a good deal by greater familiarity with the offense (and the receivers) along with more consistency and predictability from the OL. And one last thought - I think the Mariota critiques are way overblown. So much of this team's success is hinged on him not only being mistake free, but being a significant playmaker. He can do both at the same time, but it creates a very small margin of error for a young player. (25 years old). He's a very good quarterback who needs to improve, but needs way more consistency (and predictability) around him. h4t
Vrabel said today one reasin he made the change was because Marcus was not getting a usable pocket. Even he agrees with most of the non MM haters on this board that the line needs to give MM a better pocket. titanruss, and TitanJoe

That's not some representation of his pressured dropbacks. Most of them are due to the offensive line. He does need to do a better job of moving within the confines of the pocket, but overall the bigger issue is that the olineman are constantly getting beat and Mariota isn't trusting the protection which leads to indecision. A lot of young QBs like Goff would struggle with this if they had this type of line play. But that's all they remember because it fits the agenda, he does need to improve there but the line isn't making that easy this year.

He looks like a spread college QB who never learned to play in the pocket, maybe because that's what he is

Absolutely, in fact they need to give him a perfect pocket and give him a ton of time, maybe like what Dallas gave Prescott as a rookie.
IsntLifeFunny
Anyone who watched the past two games and put the pressure on Mariota is for real an idiot. titanruss, TitanJoe, and TitanDuckFan

He’s more than athletic enough and played in one in college. Same with Conklin. Only duckie thinks otherwise.

Conklin will be fine after he’s fulky recovered and has a year where’s gotten to practice and learn the system. It’s not jus the injury but Conklin didn’t even practice until after the season started. japan

A good pocket and an above average rushing game = 2016 streak Mariota. You can win with Mariota, but you better put together those aspects. Only Conklin told his last interviewer his problem wasn't his injury recovery, it was adjusting to the new scheme. Nice try, ya twat.

Nash
If you watch Conklin on his lateral steps to begin the pass blocking play, he does seem slower to me.. take a look and tell me your thoughts on the first 2 seconds when he kicks out his right leg..
