Popular Post scine09
I've felt this way for a while. This isn't a direct reaction to what happened yesterday although it didn't help. I am quite frankly sick of the league and sick of what it means to follow the league. But let's take what happened yesterday as a great example: - Random calls by referees completely changing the entire context of a game. Do I think the Titans would have won yesterday if not for the phantom holding call? No. But it doesn't excuse it. The Malcolm Butler call was a joke. Most of these penalties that are called with the exception of the obvious ones like false start and offsides are just flip of the coin. And there's not enough time in a football game or enough scoring where that's fair to anybody. I am sick of the influx of penalties completely changing outcomes or potentially changing outcomes. - Injuries galore. Yes, I know that this is what football is. Any play someone can get hurt. But it's gotten worse. The quality of play is not even close to what it was in the 90's and early 2000's, when to me the NFL was at its best. The struggles of the Titans to me are a byproduct of just not enough practice time. And that's true pretty much of all these teams. I watched other games yesterday and the quality of play was just as bad as what we witnessed. It's a poor league. Not a poor game because I think college football is actually fun to watch. - Being a fan is very difficult. It would be great if I could just put the TV on at 1 on Sundays, watch the game, and that's it. It doesn't work like that. This isn't like when I was growing up and when the game was over it was on to the next week. Nowadays every single play is microanalyzed. This board would be a great example. It's too much for me. The enjoyment of these games has completely disappeared. You can't even go on a sports related website without the ridiculous overreactions. You can't come onto this board and have just a normal football conversation. Every thread turns into a run-on thread about the QB's current struggles and whether it's his fault, the coaching, etc. And this is exactly how it is on nearly every other team's board as well. - I'm sure there are many others that feel this way, but there is absolutely no enjoyment during Titans games, even when they win. When they do win it's great, at the end, but more to not have to feel the pain of a loss. Every play you're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. When a good play happens you just wait for the next bad play. Every play you're just waiting for the next big injury. And why do we get so worked up over these games? Ultimately one out of 32 is going to win. It's going to end in disappointment for everyone else. No one remembers how these teams do season to season unless they either win the Super Bowl, go to the Super Bowl, go 0-16 or lose in some classic playoff game. I mean how many of us could tell you how the 2013 Cincinnati Bengals did, as an example? It just doesn't matter. So why do we let it ruin our days and sometimes weeks? Jamal posed that very question on his podcast. Fans care way more about this than the players getting paid the money care. Who knows if I'll follow through with this. I've threatened before. But it's gotten to a point of no return with me. I'll probably pick and choose which games I watch. But sports are supposed to be fun. This isn't fun. And it's not about yesterday or an overreaction to yesterday. StephenIsLegend, nine, Bluth, and 20 others 17
Popular Post pat
The refs really ruined the game for me. To see Henry's run called back was one thing... but that it was holding on a guy getting face-masked? Terrible fucking call. japan
scine needs to back off the ledge. I suggest you stay away from the chats and now probably the gameday thread. And maybe start off by only coming to the board if we win. Edited September 10, 2018 by japan OILERMAN, Starkiller, rns90, and 1 other 2

It's not just this board. You can't go on a sports site nowaways without complete overreactions.
terradawg
Ive had similar thoughts about the league the last few years. I quit watching NBA because the refs have such an influence on the game. The NFL has become the same. IowaOiler, rns90, and AvgJoe

I don't watch the NBA because I don't like the league but I feel like refs have less impact just because there's so many points scored. A bad call isn't going to change the game as much. But when you have 7 or 8 scoring drives the entire game and one of them is completely wiped out by a horrendous call, that's a big deal. And there's not enough games in the season where a blown call can just be pushed away as human error. Edited September 10, 2018 by scine09
CreepingDeath
Yesterday's game made my decision regarding Sunday Ticket easy. What a waste of a day. I might do Game Pass if the team ever clicks offensively. currage, and C_Train

And if it doesn't I'm sure you did something a lot better than suffer through the garbage we saw yesterday. EagleEye, and CreepingDeath
Popular Post oldschool
Scine hit a few key points but the "taking my ball and going home" bit is a little much. The NFL has to do something about the quality of officiating across the league. Its absurd. Injuries are going to kill the game to and I believe the uptick in injuries is directly related to the NFL ceding padded practices to the NFLPA during the last CBA negotiations. Lastly if losses stay with you beyond a day or two then you need to reevaluate your life. We aren't kids anymore. Does your life really change week to based on whether the Titans lose? Mine doesn't. If losses didn't sit with me I wouldn't care and probably wouldn't even watch much to begin with. It's just the way I am. If I'm passionate about something it's hard to just turn it on and off. I'd say probably by Wednesday it starts to wear off. MIKE75, and SirLanceALot 1

Did Walker hold before that happened? I honestly couldn't tell because his left arm/hand were out of the picture on the replay I saw. If Walker did hold, the play still comes back but the penalties offset. Edited September 10, 2018 by ctm
