How long is Trump going to drag this on?

How long before 19 senate Republicans break ranks for a veto-proof majority and Mitch allows a vote?

Nancy Pelosi is threatening not to invite Trump to deliver the state of the union in person.  It was delivered in writing for years.

She sent an official letter citing security concerns, noting that in September, the Homeland Security secretary officially declared State of Union addresses as needing full security resources. It is politically based but she makes valid points. In the letter she asked the President to reschedule the address after the government reopens or send the address in writing if he stills wants it on the set date.

She just trolled him:  This is a security matter.  He can make it from the oval office if he wishes.

Nancy is playing the hand she's been dealt. She's not stopping Trump from talking, she's just saying you can't do this mess from the House Chamber and podium. And truth be told, Trump probably dosen't want to do it there anyway. He'll hold a State of the Union Rally in West Virginia or Iowa. He'll pick a small town so it looks big.

I just hope Trump re-runs his telemarketing scam during the state of the union:  "Don't wait! send money for the wall -- YOUR SAFETY -- now!!"

**Please note your money is not actually going to pay for a wall, but instead to Trump re-election committee**

She's also making McConnell and congressional republicans look weak by comparison.  She's standing up to him while they are cowering in the corner afraid of him.

I did not know this:     The House and Senate must jointly adopt a resolution to schedule the State of the Union. So without that, he can’t come. Neither chamber has adopted the resolution yet.

One other thing.  Pelosi's letter is phrased as a request to Trump.  That insures that there will be a back and forth played out in the media  But she holds the power, so Trump ultimately lose a high profile media fight.  She decides.

President Trump's economic adviser admits they did analyze the impact of the shutdown, on the economy, correctly and now they realize it will be far worse:

Do you think Democrats will take a hit for this or a boon?

It's impossible to overstate what a deft power move this is by Pelosi. It highlights the responsibility that the president* and his party bear for the shutdown. It gives her a chance to point out that the Secret Service agents who are supposed to take a bullet for the president* are at the moment working for free. And it jabs the president* right in the heart of his tender ego. In truth, cancelling or moving the SOTU won't mean a whole lot in terms of governing the nation, and not many people outside of professional politics will miss it worth a damn. But in terms of demonstrating that there's a new sheriff in town, this is tough stuff.

Pelosi is flexing on him, he is going to melt down having a woman exert this much power over him. I was skeptical about her as Speaker, but she seems like she knows exactly which buttons to push with him.
