T-RAC
A new Oxford study comes to the conclusion that conservatives and Trump supporters are the primary vectors for fake and misleading news. Article describing study Naturally, Fox News is quick to refute the study itself . Fox News Critique What I find amusing is the response from Fox: Obviously, they don’t like the conclusion. They dismiss it as fake and biased. But they don’t actually challenge it on merit. They don’t even discuss the methodology. The closest they come to a fact that supports their rebuttal is ‘These junk news sites are super popular.’ Fox managed to write an article to challenge the study while actually supporting the study’s findings. Btowner
Here's the Wall Street Journal's take on this subject https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/how-youtube-drives-viewers-to-the-internets-darkest-corners/ar-BBIPcCL?ocid=spartanntp YouTube is the new television, with more than 1.5 billion users, and videos the site recommends have the power to influence viewpoints around the world. People cumulatively watch more than a billion YouTube hours daily world-wide, a 10-fold increase from 2012, the site says. Behind that growth is an algorithm that creates personalized playlists. YouTube says these recommendations drive more than 70% of its viewing time, making the algorithm among the single biggest deciders of what people watch. The Journal investigation found YouTube’s recommendations often lead users to channels that feature conspiracy theories, partisan viewpoints and misleading videos, even when those users haven’t shown interest in such content. When users show a political bias in what they choose to view, YouTube typically recommends videos that echo those biases, often with more-extreme viewpoints. For over a year now the MSM main story is Trump Collusion with Russia... The only problem is there is no evidence... On the other hand the actual Russian Collusion with evidence is the Clinton/DNC/FBI paying a foreign spy millions of dollars for bogus information... Then turning around and using that false information to get a Title 1 FISA warrant to spy on a US citizen and use that to spy on an opponent... Much less by lying to the courts to obtain the warrant... Holy smokes---this is just the beginning of the corrupt story --- and who is serving junk food... And then to boot, one side is eating this crap up because they lost an election and over a year later still can't handle the truth--- so they are trying to make up their own fictional story --- when has the MSM not attempted to find corruption in the government before??? When have the MSM not looked at things from more then one perspective, when have they not searched for the truth, when have they not sent reporters out to uncover what the truth actually is??? When the truth destroys their made up narrative... We should all expect more from an open impartial free press... Will play a big role in mid-terms. Ohh and to the point of this thread, people don't believe the MSM. If 55 percent of independents think Obama spied, how many do you think buy the Russian Collusion? It's as if people believe the opposite of what the MSM reports and rightfully so. Source? Link(s)?

TitanDuckFan
The mainstream media lost significant amounts of credibility during the obama presidency. If they hadn't, people wouldn't have gone looking for alternative sources for their news. It really is that simple. People got tired of being lied to every day/night, about things they had a front-row seat to witness. They knew what they were being told was agenda driven garbage more often than not, or at best only half the story, so they quit buying. Even the failure of the media driven/sponsored presidential polls in 2016 weren't even enough to clue them into how badly they had fucked up. The media has no one to blame for this outside of their news/copy rooms. Even the ones that made (what should have been successful) the jump to digital have struggled, many to the point of failure. Newsweek went down this week because they fell for the clickbait model/formula, and their content was trash. They are one of many and there will be more. There really is "nothing to see here folks." Time to move along.
