Boston gave up way too much for Kyrie

If it was just a straight up deal for Isaiah Thomas, then maybe it would have been a good deal for them, or a least a decent one.

But also giving up Crowder and the 1st round pick they got from Brooklyn and a guy they drafted in the first round last year (Zizic)?

That pick from Brooklyn will almost certainly be a top-3 pick in 2018, it doesn't seem to be a protected pick from what I've seen.

So Boston gave up a whole lot to their main competitor in the east having recently improved themselves when they got Hayward.

But like a typical idiot Bostonian, they just made Cleveland better so they can win the conference yet again. Good work Boston!

Boston is going to be unstoppable in the East with Hawyward, Irving, Taytum, Brown and a solid 6th man Smartxxx

no sure of the rest of the roster but that's an amazing young core in a horrible conference.

Brown showed very good flashes, Irving is an all star, Gordon is elite, and Taurus has huge upside.

The problem is the bench

Yes and No.   The Nets pick could be big, but odds are never as good as Irving.   Thomas's market value at this point is limited.  No team is looking forward to giving this guy even a 4/120 contract after this year is up. And Thomas's people insist he deserves even more than that.  So in essence Thomas's value is for just this upcoming year.  They also gave up Crowder.

So it all comes down to who the Nets pick turns out to be, and what happens with Thomas.

This one is harder to analyze for me because I could see it going both ways. I do agree that Boston has really leveraged the bench to chase GH. They have now sent out 4 of their starting 5 from last season. Kyrie being 25 fits into their core.

IT's health and age are question marks. But damn, IT was incredible last season. He gave everything to that city. Cleveland is really counting on Brooklyn continuing to suck--a good draft to have it in with Porter and Bagley.

It will be really interesting to see what IT/Crowder/Bron/Love/TT looks like. Crowder gives them a true shut down defender and wing flexibility.

It will be interesting to see if Kyrie takes the next step with the team being "his".

On paper, last season's Celtics didn't look as good as they were.

But Kyrie/Hayward/Tatum or Brown/Marcus Morris/Al Horford.

I'm not really inspired by that.

I will say I can't wait to see the opening night absolute showdowns between Boston and Cleveland and Golden State and Houston. How lucky are we?

The Celtics don't scare me in the least. Their offense won't be nearly as good now, and the defensive upgrade from Thomas to Kyrie is minimal.

They would wreck HOU. Lol.

Kyrie is much better than Thomas.

Would they really? They will wreck the Lakers, along with most everyone else.

And Kyrie has never had to lead a team, he will be completely lost without LeBron around.

I'm sure you were thinking that of Harden when y'all got him after he played with Durant and Westbrook as well, right?

Yeah, right. More like OKC was completely wasting him as their 6th man like the complete idiots they are.

They had two of the best players in the NBA and now they have just Westbrook plus George on a 1-year loaner.

It's even stupider when you think about it.  They basically chose to keep Kendrick Perkins over Harden.  Simmons has written for YEARS how stupid this trade was.

If/when Harden goes into the HOF (hopefully with multiple rings) it will probably go down as one of the worst trades in NBA history. Especially when you add in the fact they lost KD a few years after and are now desperately trying to keep Westbrook from leaving too by adding PG13 and Melo, both of which can opt out after next season. They could even end up losing Russ as well since he becomes a FA in 2018 if he doesn't sign his extension before the start of the regular season. Poor OKC!

OKC got to the WCF. Without Harden and after that trade btw. Where has Harden got? Second round. Where will he get. Second round.

Wrong, and wrong (as usual). Remember the 2015 WCF? Obviously not.

It won't be the last time he gets there either, Harden will help Paul reach the WCF for his first time. If not this season, certainly by May 2019. Most rankings out there have the Rockets at #2 after the Warriors. Although I'm guessing some people will jump on the OKC bandwagon even though there will be horrible chemistry between Russ and Melo, neither of which wants to play D. Paul George will jump ship ASAP to get away from those two prima donnas once the Thunder are eliminated in the first or second round.

Back to the original point of the thread, now the Cavs just added Wade even though he's by no means the player he was in his prime. But once they get Thomas back, assuming his hip injury isn't career-threatening, the depth in Cleveland should be by far the best in the NBA. They have James, Wade, Thomas, Love, Thompson, Rose, JR Smith, Crowder, Korver, Shumpert, Green, and Frye. A 12-man rotation of that magnitude would work just like Viagra, even for an old man like Popovich, if he had a roster like that.

Gave away one of their best players for spoiled meat (isiah) and a bench player.

They will falter in the playoffs. No doubt.

The Celtics will miss that bench player big time and Kyrie was only the Cavs' 2nd best player, and a distant second at that. He will never be half the player LeBron is, the fans in Boston will soon turn on him now that he will fail without Hayward around to help him. Even before the injury, the Celtics depth wasn't as good as the Rockets who have 4 former starters on their bench (Gordon, Tucker, Nene, and Mbah a Moute). Plus Boston gave away what will likely be the #1 pick in next year's draft now that Linsanity is also gone for the year, a huge bonus for Cleveland.

Of course Cleveland will falter in the Finals after they win the east again.

They have already won 10 in a row, but once they get IT back they will surpass the Celtics. Wait and see.
