That's too high for anyone. I don't believe it took that much for Sale. Unless their prospects aren't that great...

You're wrong.  Red Sox gave up 2 of their top 5 prospects (going by BA rankings) and another guy in the top 10.  That's 3 top 10 prospects from a strong Red Sox farm system that got dealt for Sale.

Anyway, there seems to be a decent trade market for a starter, so the Astros should be able to pick one up for a decent price.

Didn't they just call up 2 of their top pitching prospects in Martes and Paulino?

Another Houston team completely fucked over by instant replay. That HR was clearly over the wall and they call fan interference?

The 5th rotation spot means nothing come playoffs.    If Houston fails to win the WS this year (barring any devastating injuries), it will be a massive failure of a season.

Right now they're in desperate need of a starter, maybe even two. Paulino was just decent in 2 starts, making a 3rd tomorrow.

Martes made his ML debut tonight giving up 4 runs in 3 2/3 innings after they pulled the starter in the top of the 4th.

Musgrove is coming back on Monday, but he's almost like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound at this point.

Hopefully they can get both Keuchel and Morton back by the AS break, and maybe McHugh shortly thereafter. Fingers crossed.

According to the rankings the Astros top 3 prospects aren't that great. So maybe it would be a steal for them as well.

They've lost 5 of their last 7 games with their top 4 starting pitchers on the DL. Martes makes his first ML start on Wednesday.

Of course it could, but they should be getting McCullers back next week and hopefully Keuchel by the end of the month.

Quintana is 2-8 with a 5.30 ERA, I'm thinking a change of scenery could do wonders for him. Maybe they can get him.

I think y'all should look into Sonny Gray as well. Gray has as much if not more potential than Quintana.

Hopefully they manage to get one of them. Houston looks like they prefer Quintana, but either of them would help immensely.

One of those two added to their rotation of Keuchel, McCullers, Morton, and (eventually) McHugh would be very solid.

They also need to add another reliable reliever, the bullpen has been absolutely terrible over the past week.

Quintana has had HR problems but he's a quality pitcher.  As someone who's watched him pitch a bunch, counting on Morton isn't wise.

Relievers should be easy to add....just don't overpay like the Giants did for Will Smith last year.

Even though he started the season 5-3 with a 4.06 ERA, I doubt the Astros are really counting on Morton all that much.

If they do manage to trade for either Quintana or Gray, that will give them a solid #3 starter behind Keuchel and McCullers.

And sometime after the AS break they should be getting McHugh back, so hopefully he will be their #4 guy by that point.

So if all goes to plan, then Morton will be their #5 starter at the bottom of the rotation with Martes waiting to replace him.

Now it's 8 of their last 12 games, but they are expecting McCullers back this weekend when they go to Seattle.

Hopefully they can steal a game or two in Oakland, and maybe they'll get Keuchel back sometime next week as well.

Springer hit his 8th leadoff homer tonight tying the team's single-season record (he also had 8 last season tying Biggio's record).

The ML single-season record for leadoff HR's is 13, he's currently on pace to hit exactly 18. He could very well shatter the record.

Everyone who thought he was going to start declining 3 years ago.

Sure, he's 40. But my point was that the team's averaging .287 right now (despite Beltran) and he's 57 points below that.

Oh my mistake, Altuve is closer to .340.  His average basically cancels Beltrans out. That would equate to a .280-.290 average.

It shouldn't have to, that's my point. They gave Beltran $16M to be their DH and he's the worst hitter in the lineup right now.

At least Gurriel is starting to earn his big salary, he's up to .295 right now. Reddick is also earning his $13M with a .314 BA.

I think we are finally to the point where Beltran is no longer .280 hitter.

That's why he only received a 1-year contract. He is providing much needed veteran leadership, hopefully he'll play better in October.

The top of the order is killing it right now. In eight games in July, Springer is hitting .486, Altuve (.516), Correa (.500) and even Reddick(.364). More importantly, they have drastically reduced their strikeouts.

Still early, but they are really playing great ball.

They racked up 19 runs vs Toronto on Sunday.  At this point, they're pretty much a LOCK for the postseason.  Time to start focusing on shoring up needs and getting ready for October baseball again.
