Btowner
They have to figure out how to beat the Rangers. They are currently 1-9 against them and still have 9 games remaining.
Oiler FANatic
That is true, but they're only 4.5 games behind them right now which is way better than it was earlier in the season. The Rangers have lost 11 of their last 14 games, and are no longer the lock to win the AL West like they once were. Btowner
rns90
The Astros are also one of the few teams that don't need starting pitching either so they don't have to give up any value assets to get a starter like BOS just did to acquire Pomeranz. The Rangers seem desperate to add a starter. They also have an INF prospect named Bregman (sp?) who they are expected to promote soon and take over at 3b for Valbuena. And they also signed some Cuban defector in the past few days. He probably won't be a factor this year but he'll replace one of the FA OF next year. It's hard not to be impressed with the rebuild job the GM has done the past few years. Another one of their top pitching prospects, Musgrove, was sort of a throw in in a trade a few years ago with the Blue Jays.
Oiler FANatic
I think the Cuban guy Gourriel plays 2B/SS/3B just like Bregman who will be switching from SS to 3B once he joins the Astros. So one of them will likely end up going to 1B with Correa already at SS and Altuve at 2B, perhaps Gourriel since he's older (32). Oiler FANatic
There's good news and bad news from the Astros recent 2-1 loss to Toronto. Good news: pitcher Joe Musgrove threw 8 strikeouts in relief in his major-league debut, a modern-era record Bad news: another prospect recently joining the team, 3rd baseman Alex Bregman has hit 1 for 32 in his first 8 games Btowner
Btowner
They were the healthiest team in the first half. Now, Valbuena, Gregerson and McCullers have all been injured recently. Giles has also been named the closer. I know Harris was on a great in the first half, but I didn't trust him as the closer. Giles' stuff is closer to our dominant closers like Wagner or Lidge. Oiler FANatic
Too bad they haven't had more of them lately. After pulling within a couple of games of Texas last month, they've gone 3-10 since. Edited August 8, 2016 by Oiler FANatic

Or maybe once they call up Gurriel later this month they can move Bregman (who now has a 6-game hitting streak) to LF, and Rasmus to CF.
rns90
DFA'd Gomez yesterday. That was a bad trade, even with Mike Fiers posting averagish starter stats. The Astros called up some reliever and now have 9 rookies on their 25 man roster. It'll be ten when they call up Gurriel.

rns90
They gotta start playing better. 5.5 GB of the 2nd WC. And I checked their upcoming schedule it's pretty difficult. Lots of games vs teams over .500.
Oiler FANatic
I blame the writer on ESPN.com who said 3 weeks ago that Houston (55-46) was going to catch the Rangers (58-44). Now the Astros are 61-59, 10 games behind them. Houston has almost no chance of winning the division right now.
Oiler FANatic
What a wasted turnaround. They went 38-18 after starting the season 17-28 (to get to 55-46), now they've lost 14 of their last 20 games. Btowner

Springer is hitting .240 and Bregman .200 since the All-Star game. You just can't win with the top of your lineup so bad.
