  1. One thing I was astonished by is that there are a dozen-ish states that allow you to drink in a car if you are not the driver (my friends and I made a point to crack open beers crossing Tennessee state line going to the Packers Titans game years ago). Even Wisconsin doesn’t have that What made me think of this topic was buying a “to go” beer at the airport today that I could just drink in the concourse after security. What are some drinking laws you are surprised by or think may be some local anomalies.
  2. So there’s only a few board right wingers. Don’t make me tag you so you can avoid the subject. I’m seriously curious as to your view on a post Trump GOP world. Even if he’s not out of politics this round, he’s not God….He will die at some point. There’s no real policy ideals from the GOP. What you used to believe is no longer party idealogy. The GOP has evolved from policy to emotions, and nothing more. It’s all out in the open now. There is no policy idealogy. Just outrage and culture war. When Trump is gone, what do you hope the party moves to? More Trump? Back to traditional Republican ideals? You won’t find this answer on the internet. It’s a moment of self thought. Post Trump world is inevitable one way or another. What are thoughts on post Trump GOP world?
  3. So, not trying to be a dick, but I want to understand the mindset of people who pray. I’m an atheist living in a country where atheism is highly prevalent, so don’t feel like a minority. But this week after the injury suffered by Hamlin in the NFL, I heard 1000 times about people praying for Hamlin to recover. It now sounds like he is getting better and on the path to recovery. My core question is, if you prayed for his recovery, do you (A) honestly think that contributed to him getting better, I.e. your god listened and decided to intervene? Or (B) is your prayer just a way of reflecting in your thoughts and hoping he gets better (acknowledging that his recovery is virtually fully dependent on the treatment he received from medical professionals)? I’m sure this will trigger some folks, so apologies in advance, but I’m trying to understand something that is totally foreign to me. Also, probably posted in wrong forum, so feel free to move it.
  4. Thread for details on the budget Reconciliation package, lead by “Chairman Sanders” as Mitch McConnell likes to refer to him.
  5. Starting a new thread so this doesn't get buried in the shit show that is now the Virus in US thread. What have you all noticed as far as mask wearing lately where you live? Where I am in CA, which was pretty strict during the pandemic, I've noticed during the past week hardly anyone is wearing masks anymore. I went to the local market today. I would say 50% of the employees were wearing masks and only about 10% of the customers in the store wore them. I'm sure that has a lot to do with our state lifting almost all mask requirements a few days ago.
  6. What say you? https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/coronavirus-pandemic-vaccine-updates-03-01-21/h_ba87927e92780b7b85772dfb19f8462c
  7. I feel like this is a wide ranging topic that is in dire need for discussion in America. We are into it now because of Twitter, Parler, etc but it has been an issue for a long time. I thought we should have a thread dedicated to it as it will be an ongoing issue and not limited to recent events. I’m not as worried about the legal implications of the 1st Amendment. That’s about whether the government can punish you based on what you say. But the issue at hand is what private corporations can do to control what you can say. Where should these limits be? Twitter, Facebook, and all other private social media companies have a terms of service users have to agree to. Violating them means that their posts can be deleted and user accounts can be locked or banned. I assume we can all agree that threats of violence should qualify as a bannable offense. What else should a company like Facebook not allow? Should clear propaganda be allowed? Political ads that are untrue? Junk Science? Conspiracy theories? Is it OK to ban white supremacist groups? If they didn’t specifically say anything illegal, should a Neo-Nazi group be allowed to post on Twitter or Facebook? I was always taught that the KKK should have just as much legal right to peaceably assemble and march as any other group, but online rights with private entities aren’t the same. And if you have a site like Parler or 8Chan that is seen as a radioactive mess, should hosting services or app stores be required to service them? Is it OK for Amazon to kick Parler off AWS and no one else being willing to serve them? It isn’t a violation of free speech because a company like Parlor has no right to free speech, but is it OK to for everyone to refuse service? Is it OK for Twitter to kick Trump off if he isn’t explicitly promoting violence? Is it OK for them to tag his posts as untrue regarding the election results? Was it OK for them to not tag his posts for years that were also blatantly lies? How should Twitter have moderated Trump over the years and should that be any different from how they would moderate a random user’s postings? Should there be a forcible change in the US news media? Should Fox News or OAN or the NY Post be able to peddle in right wing propaganda dressed up as news? If not, should “mainstream” media have any changes forced upon them? Is there any responsibility in the news media (or social media) to report the truth? Or is just a hands-off free for all and the consumer decides? On a more “local” basis, what is the right way for mods to handle a forum like TitansReport. For the most part, anything goes other than threats of violence or racism. Forum owners can pretty much run it however they want, but what’s the best way to manage it in your opinion? And should it be any different than a big social media site like Facebook or Twitter?
  8. This thing is closer to Ronnie/ Jimmie than Donnie/ Clinton. At least 380 for our stuttering bastard. Senate is lost as well.
  9. Anyone who is old enough to remember the many civilized debates of the past, this was embarrassing, and sad. Trump has shown the world he is an abusive person, who has such an insatiable need to control, to dominate, let alone lie, and be a total jerk. How anyone believes Trump won this debate, they are totally deluded. This was a display of what a toxic narcissist person is. If you didn't know it before, now you know.
