    Jan 6th Hearings

With the public hearings starting on the 9th, i figured we needed a thread on it. Trump on Trial The Brookings Institution has released a comprehensive guide to this week’s hearings by the January 6 Committee. “The issue of criminality is central to the congressional hearings commencing on June 9, 2022… The report covers key players in the attempt to overturn the election, the known facts regarding their conduct, and the criminal law applicable to their actions.”

    Iran / AUKUS

It seems like the policy of the United States remains to not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon. Whether this is the right policy, I'm honestly not sold either way. Israel is preparing for war with Iran because the nuclear deal talks are in a critical phase and Blinken said the other day that he is no longer optimistic about a deal getting done (things shifted when Russia pulled out of good faith negotiations, another side affect of this Ukraine War). The United States is going to be in a tough spot. Israel at some point will attack Iran on a massive scale if a deal is not reached. My guess is that the US will support Israel. A few weeks back, in between negotiating with NATO on Ukraine and holding high level meetings with the Europeans, the WH hosted the Israeli Defense Minister and several Israeli Generals for "high stakes" in person talks. Things are about to get even more volatile geopolitically and the Iran situation is in a critical phase, nearing a tipping point. The US needs to increase defense spending and prepare for war on multiple fronts if it comes to our doorstep. The Two Front War Defense policy needs to be restored immediately, and an arms race must begin, and we have to decidedly win it. On AUKUS - the Austrailian / UK / United States Defence Alliance They recently extended their pact to include joint development and technology sharing on hypersonic missiles. The US last week successfully conducted tests of their new hypersonic missile system from an aircraft, per multiple reports. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/apr/05/aukus-pact-extended-to-development-of-hypersonic-weapons Things are ratcheting up globally - get ready for it. This is just the beginning of a much more volatile global security environment than any of us have seen in a long time.
  4. Imagine the information that’s going to come out. https://www.foxnews.com/world/julian-assange-extradition-approved-british-government
  5. https://miamistandard.news/2022/05/18/study-testosterone-treatment-turns-democrat-voters-more-conservative/ No I'm not trying to be an ass but I did find this funny.
  6. Go to the 7:00 mark to see what Elon says about Jesusantity. I know what Jesus said about the devil. He is a liar and the father of all lies. I guess standing up for people in power to have freedom to tell lies over the number one source of information in America is what makes them love Elon.
  7. I'm curious, give me your lists of top 5-10 worst active congresspeople. Here's mine: 1. Matt Gaetz 2. Marjorie Taylor Green 3. Paul Gosar 4. Louis Gohmert 5. Lauren Boebert 6. Jim Jordan 7. Barry Loudermilk 8. Mo Brooks 9. Josh Hawley 10. Ted Cruz 11. Ron Johnson 12. Scott DesJarlais 13. Thomas Massie 14. Marsha Blackburn 15. Ilhan Omar Sorry, got started and couldn't stop. This is a list of people that should resign from Congress ASAP (obviously they won't). Edited: Reordered and subbed out AOC and Tlaib. There are far worse people who are borderline fascists out there.
  8. I keep hearing so many people say things would be different if he had of won 2020. From either side without too much bickering let’s say he did win what would be different today in the US? Would global inflation not be hitting the US as bad? From what I’ve seen our gas prices are some of the lowest in the world, but it is true that inflation has hurt a lot of people. If Trump was president is anyone saying this wouldn’t have happened? How about the war in Ukraine? I’ve heard that espoused that Putin would have never invaded if Trump was president. Is that what anyone believes? If so make a case. Stock market diving in 2022 alongside 401ks. Would these be significantly better under Trump with the Feds raising rates leading to the drying up of liquidity in the market? I’m genuinely asking here from all counterpoints while also asking for this to be a discussion for as long as possible without it simply devolving into mudslinging.
  9. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/self-driving-trucks-to-cut-retailer-costs-up-to-30-gatik-ceo-says-201643123.html I posted last year about the cashier who told me the self checkout was no threat to her position. They regularly ran 3-4 cashier stations 18mos ago, with 3 self-check stations. Now there are 1-2 cashiers and 6 self-checks The people who work these jobs are non-college grads, unskilled products of the American educational system who do not understand math well enough to give you your change without using the cash register. The above article is about self-driving trucks. The rich who control the R party, tell the evannie/low IQ Americans that Willie Horton and the beaners are taking their jobs. The D fight for better education. The R fight for our teachers to carry weapons. An educated person can easily see that many, huge numbers of jobs have been lost to automation to increase profits. An uneducated person thinks the factories that closed are actually packed with Cadillac driving black people.
  10. “It’s the economy, stupid”. Biden needs to get the economy back working more or less like normal. He needs to get people feeling like the country isn’t a mess. He got off to a good start this week by helping broker a deal to get the port of LA to shift to 24/7 work to start dealing with a massive backlog of ships. The supply chain being out of whack is a big part of it. But I fear he (and the government in general) really doesn’t have much control of the issue. It’s mostly something that would only be sorted out by “the invisible hand of the market”. Corporate profit motive drives cost increases which drives inflation higher. And unless wages go up, most people are going to feel that inflation in their wallets. But that same profit motive keeps wages low. And it also keeps unemployment artificially high because people don’t want to take jobs they are being underpaid for. And as long as businesses are short staffed, consumers will have to deal with delays in service. Basically, people are angry. Angry people tend to vote against the incumbent (or his party). Biden needs to either make people happy for find a way to spin that anger and focus it on the Republicans (but that’s a hard sell).
  11. Jon Voight has turned against the gun nuts, saying it is not a political question but a question whether you have a brain or not. Country musicians pulling out of NRA events. Now, Texas legislators, including some Republicans, are calling for the Governor to call a special session to address gun measures. So there are some Republicans, whose common sense got the better of them, speaking out, and it is more than likely that this trend will continue to grow when the next inevitable gun shooting occurs. This means we are getting to the point were the Republican party will no longer be able to ignore this growing problem, and will act to some degree. On the other side of the Republican party, you have the gun nuts who will not give a millimeter on this issue. No matter how small, and no matter how much sense it makes, any legislation that addresses guns to any degree will be met with cries that the world has ended by that group. This will cause an unrepairable fissure between those factions in the Republican party, and as the Republican base gets smaller and more extreme, it would not take much chipping at that fissure to end the party.
  12. https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/20/politics/hillary-clinton-robby-mook-fbi/index.html Democrats believed a lie? Do you still believe a vetted president was an agent of Russia?
  13. https://politicalwire.com/2022/06/01/videos-reveal-gop-plans-to-contest-elections/ “Video recordings of Republican Party operatives meeting with grassroots activists provide an inside look at a multi-pronged strategy to target and potentially overturn votes in Democratic precincts: Install trained recruits as regular poll workers and put them in direct contact with party attorneys,” Politico reports. “The plan, as outlined by a Republican National Committee staffer in Michigan, includes utilizing rules designed to provide political balance among poll workers to install party-trained volunteers prepared to challenge voters at Democratic-majority polling places, developing a website to connect those workers to local lawyers and establishing a network of party-friendly district attorneys who could intervene to block vote counts at certain precincts.” This is what Steve Bannon called “the precinct strategy” late last year. Donald Trump endorsed it. Playbook: “You don’t have to be an expert on election administration to understand the havoc that this attempted partisan takeover of vote-counting and certifying could create.” I honestly don't know what to do when an entire party turns against democracy.
  14. Since January, Schumer and Warren have been pointing at Biden to forgive federal student loans. Today, Pelosi set the record straight. "The President can only postpone payments. Forgiveness requires an act of Congress." https://www.washingtonpost.com/video/national/pelosi-holds-weekly-news-conference/2021/07/28/fac066ef-492b-4d4d-9a11-fa80dd3153e1_live.html Why are Schumer and Warren not simply pushing for this in a reconciliation package?
  15. I just imagine him rehearsing the speech and repeating to himself, "Don't say Iraq, don't say IRAQ, DON'T SAY IRAQ"
