Wilks would be a very good option.

People are making a mistake thinking we’ll only hire an offensive minded guy as HC. Plenty of great OC options to work under a defensive HC.

Vrabel may well be our best option actually.

I don't want to think about the implications of the Titans firing Mularkey just to get McDaniels only to have the Colts get him a few hours later. Thats not a pretty picture.

Robinson never wanted him back. Strunk probably felt like he deserved another year after the playoff win and was on the fence, but the FO finally wore her down.

That’s what was reported this morning.

I believe him when he said the decision was made this morning and that his comments yesterday played a factor.

I think they were all hoping he’d realize what changes needed to be made and make them. But when he made clear that no changes or adjustments were going to be made, they just pulled the trigger.

I saw a reporter on Twitter earlier say that the FO eventually wore Amy down. They probably used his comments to get her over the edge.

This is good though, they didn’t try to force any staff changes or stipulate specific changes. That wouldve been meddling. They realized he wouldn’t be making any changes and determined he wasn’t the right guy and fired him.

No, they were going to fire him if he had lost at KC no doubt. Then the KC win bought him goodwill that came along with the hope that he’d make some changes.

They started working on an extension for him after the win at KC, and ended up deciding to just cut the cord yesterday or today or whatever.

Interesting comments on on having to adapt week to week in the modern NFL. He's taking subtle shots without trying to come across as an asshole. There was a clear difference of opinion.

They pulled the staff changes routine probably. Or couldn’t agree to extension terms.

I think people fundamentally misunderstand the role of head coach. Or at least what it should be. Piggybacking off of my earlier CEO analogy, let’s really think about what the job entails:

    - Establishing identity, casting vision
    - Solve organizational problems
    - Establishing culture and mindset
    - Leadership and motivation
    - Identifying the right people to execute your vision

For what its worth, Mularkey was really good at a lot of this.

Obviously, there are guys like Andy Reid who call plays from this position. I think that’s dumb. You hire guys to coordinate the offense. Your gameday job is to oversee and manage the game. The idea that we need any sort of QB whisperer or offensive-minded coach misses the point of the job. You don’t think Mike Vraebel couldn’t have an outstanding offensive philosophy in mind? Couldn’t select someone to execute on his vision?

Josh McDaniels = ahole, no one likes to play for him. Let’s pretend he’s an offensive genius. That combo makes for a terrible head coach; a great OC, obviously, but I do NOT want this yo-yo RUNNING MY ORGANIZATION.

Mike Vraebel = Leader, Street cred, motivator, depth of football knowledge. This guy would be fantastic from the perspective of transition from Mularkey, no doubt in my mind. Would he have the right offensive philosophy, or the skill to pick the people to execute his vision? Something none of us can know...and J-Rob will suss some of this out in the interview.

But Mike Vraebel not being “offensive-minded” has ZERO impact on Mariota. If you disagree, please remind yourself what side of the ball Bill Belichick comes from.

Lastly, DeFilippo seems like a perfect OC hire. I Really think he could help put Mariota back on track.

Put me in the Vraebel camp. I think.

I have no idea how someone could argue that going from back to back winning seasons and winning a playoff game to going 7-9 would be “making progress on the field.”
