Face, I love you but most of the guys you just mentioned were borderline NFL starters and ours was one of the few teams in the league they would've started on. Webster was the GM, at the end of the day, those were his decisions to make and he made the wrong ones which is why this was one of the leas talented in the league when he was fired. He might have been well respected when he was elsewhere and in other roles but as the Tennesse Titans GM he was horrible and there is no real way to spin it any other way.

Oh he did a bad job, no question. I’m terrible at getting to the point at times, but that was a long winded way of saying that his drafts were utterly horrible in ‘14 & ‘15 but I blame Whisenhunt just as much.

But anyway I agree with you, some of these draft gurus get way too much credit. But it’s even worse when your team does stupid shit & you know it’s stupid the second they do it. 2 moves that I knew we fubar’d immediately was the Bud signing & picking Petit-Frere over Bernhard Raimann. Usually I’m all about drafting or signing guys who had great combines, I think you & I are both big traits guys. Bud is probably the most explosive guy ever. His combine was just hard to believe, 43 inch vert & almost a 12 foot broad at 270? Unheard of. Guy was totally spare on the field. I ignored all the rumors & then was just stunned at what JRob paid him. It was retarded from.the get. I also didn’t understand how we could draft NPF over Raimann, who was already clearly better even though he only played football for like 4 years & he blew away NPF in the combine. It was nuts. I posted it the second it happened. Raimann is already at worst a top 8 LT  & NPF would’ve gotten cut the way he played in the preseason & the few games this season if he wasn’t a 3rd rounder. That pick was nothing more than a Big School pick & that NPF was a 5 star in HS. I don’t know how anyone could’ve watched the tape & made that pick.

Teams make weird, horrible decisions pretty often as well.

  2. Also, I’ve become even more convinced that the media no longer realizes we exist as an NFL franchise. We have the 2nd most cap space & Ive literally not read a single FA except for Becton attached to us. I’ve read about a dozen FA’s that are “perfect fits” for the Chargers, however, who are $70 million above the cap. It’s kindve become ridiculous. Tyron Smith is also not a “perfect fit” for the Chiefs, who have zero cap space & Sneed & Chris Jones to deal with. We have $80 million & the worst LT situation in history. At least put in SOME effort. The media is honestly useless……

  3. I think the Becton stuff with us is true. Callahan said the offensive scheme will pretty much be the same as what they’re doing in Cincy. I keep reading on here about the outside zone, and yeah his Dad runs it well & I’m sure it will a pretty big part of the running game but this scheme is going to be nothing like the Shanahan system. The passing game is not going to be based off the outside zone via playaction. The bulk of Callahan’s experience was in Mannings offense in Denver & he was in Detroit with Jim Caldwell who ran the same offense. This is basically what Cincy does….very few “heavy” sets. They spread it out with 3 WR’s & even empty a lot. Tons of shotgun. It’s a totally pass-centric offense. A lot of “levels”, which is ins to different depths down the field, just a good mix of short, intermediate, and deep passing. That why the Bengals brought in a bunch of huge, strong pass blockers. They don’t ask them to get down the field or be mobile, they want them to pass block & occasional block gap or inside zone.  Jonah Williams was already there, isn’t very good, and I don’t think we’ll have the slightest interest.  Becton is massive like Orlando Brown Jr & should be cheap. He at least played at a very high level as a rookie & while he had a bad year many here feel part of that was on the bad cast & Zach Wilson.

Id really expect us to look hard at guys like Becton, Robert Hunt, and Michael Onwenu. Huge, strong pass blockers.

Yup, were pretty good at it around here. Yes we're all just fans but we've watched a lot of football, some of us have coached, and many others have played. We have a lot of posters with varied skill sets and together I think we had a good feel for the league. You can't tell me that polls on TR couldn't have drafted better than Ruston Webster.

Im far from a Rust Webster defender but I don’t think his problem was a talent evaluation one as much as it was giving into the staff & not getting a coach who he aligns with (Whisenhunt). Webster’s whole career  was with the Dungy Bucs & the Holmgren Seahawks before he came here. Especially on defense, he did a good job finding edge rushers & gap shooting defensive tackles. Drafting Morgan, bringing in Babin & Dave Ball, drafting Casey, Klug, and Mike Martin (who I still don’t know what happened to him after a real good first 2 years. Even Sen’Derrick Marks played real well in Jax. He found good late rd corners who played great zone in Verner & McCourty. He also had a good eye for LBer talent in Zach Brown & Avery Williamson, and signing Woodyard. Most of these guys were Tony Dungy type guys, and Seattle played a similar D.  But he caved too often to coaches. I know there was a rumor he wanted Lavonte David but Jerry Gray loved Zach Brown. Loggains brow beat him into Justin Hunter & Munchak fell in love with Locker. I’m convinced Webster wanted Nick Fairley, maybe Watt. In 2012 Chris Palmer thru Munch apparently campaigned relentlessly for Kendall Wright because he claimed he needed a stud slot for his option route system.

Then Webster apparently wanted to hire Mike Zimmer & Tommy Smith wanted Wiz. This was definitely true because Zimmer flat out said he was crushed when we hired Wiz because it was like the 8th time he just missed out on a job. Wiz wanted to run a 2 gap 3-4 which is the opposite guys that Webster scouted his whole career  & it was a disaster. Whisenhunt also had an obsession dating back to his Cards days with massive, cement footed OL, and the 2014-15 drafts were total disasters. Not making excuses for Mariota but in what world does picking him #2 & drafting Dorial Green Beckham, Jeremiah Poutasi, David Cobb, Andy Gallick at Center, and my favorite, Jalston Fowler, a FB, in the 4th rd. Then they take Angelo Blackson the pick right before Trey Flowers which I even knew was brutal, and also before Henry Anderson & Grady Jarrett. It was just completely illogical. I’m not saying to draft for the Oregon spread, but if you’re picking Mariota draft some soeed & some quick OL. They drafted for a 1980’s power running team. Then Wiz trades Andy Levitre to Atl & replaces him with Byron Bell. Just nuts.

I know this was long winded but Rust was actually well respected when he came here. And he is responsible for dealing with the staff fighting for certain players. But I think he would’ve  done a much better job with a coach who was more aligned with him. Especially Wiz, that was a horrific pairing. And with that, I will never breathe the names of these 2 men again……

I'm just going to say I think you're really off on Odunze. I don't know if the Combine may change your mind but I think you just see "DB was close, so he struggles with separation".

The board is just really off on Odunze, I think it’s just a case of seeing a few highlight plays & just assuming he’s a jump ball specialist. It’s really the complete opposite. If need be he has amazing ball skills on contested throws but he’s a pure “X” WR who runs great routes, is super fluid, and gets easy separation. He also tracks the ball very well. He does it all. And if he doesn’t beat his guy downfield, then he can go up & get it. But he’s just not even close to a one trick pony. He does everything you want an Alpha outside guy to do.

Vrabel will get another HC job.  TR is biased.  Look at the hires.  Vrabel has a record of winning and winning big when he has weapons.

I don't keep up with coaching changes, but how often does a HC get fired at the end of the season get a HC job for the next season.

I think he has a great chance of getting the Jets or Giants job next year if one or both open up. Especially the Jets with Rodgers there. Vrabel is definitely a Northeast guy & his personality would be a great fit here.

Baker and simmons in the middle of this D adds a ton of speed.  Behind Jeff and Autry solves a lot.

One WR I would go hard after day one is Gabe Davis.  I think he is vastly underrated.  I's pass on Ridley.  You give Ridley cash and he becomes Pac Man.

I like Gave Davis & Simmons as well. I admit I’m most likely overrating Simmons who was one of my favorite LBers to come out in years, he’s such a freak athlete. But he had a good year for the NYG last year & there’s a chance he could be finding his way.

Davis is a just a monster in contested situations & has had big production on a per target basis since coming into the league. He’s kindve limited in what he can do but he does it real well.

Can see the beginnings of an offseason plan

    - Sign Tyron Smith as the bridge LT

    - Draft Rome Odunze at #7 (Nabers will be gone)

    - Draft Patrick Paul at #38

    - Profit

Seriously though I see Tyron Smith signing with a team like the Jets or Chiefs.

Maybe the Jets but the Chiefs have zero cap space. We can blow away any offer they make. I’m much more concerned with the Pats.

I also don’t think the Chiefs being a Super Bowl team factors in that much. If winning was a huge priority he’d stay in Dallas, where he loves playing. Bottom line he gave Dallas a massive hometown discount & he rightfully wants a huge payday before he walks off into the sun. We need to be the ones to give it to him.

The value is trading back if they don't want to take the 3rd QB there is no way they are taking Harrison Jr if a team like the Vikings/Broncos/Raiders is offering them anything like a 49ers move up for Trey Lance type deal.

Oh yeah a trade up is different. I’m just talking Daniels vs MHJ.

Soeaking of Im hoping the rumors of Atlanta handing Cousins a blank check aren’t true. I’d at least like to be in a good position to consider a possible trade back.

  10. I’m still trying to figure out how Darby was so good last year. Corner is such a weird spot, Darby was a stud as a rookie than kindve was just meh. Then was white on rice last year.

@Mythos27is this just the nature of the position? It seems like there’s significantly less truly dominant year to year corners than any position. It just seems like there’s so many guys who have 1-3 great seasons then just sortve peter out. Marshon Lattimore is a perfect example.  AJ Bouye. Kendall Fuller was another one, started off great than was flat bad for 2-3 years but now he’s had 2 very good seasons. I can go on & on……

The Patriots is the one I have the biggest issue with there if they are not drafting a QB they are trading out.

There’s a ton of chatter about them picking Harrison Jr. I can see it. Daniels  is Uber talented but he’s not for everyone.  I forget who it was but someone was saying when Daniels bounced out of the pocket he ran the ball 80% of the time. In the NFL QB’s throw 60% of the time they leave the pocket. And he took some absolutely devastating hits.

Elliot Wolf, Ron’s son, is running the show there now. They brought in a ton of guys from Green Bay to the FO & staff. They’re installing the West Coast offense GB’s always run, Daniels isn’t a great fit. Plus, people are saying MHJ is just incredible in person, he looks like a TE. He’s probably the closest thing to Calvin Johnson, not quite the specimen but more skilled & nuanced.

I can see an MHJ & then Michael Penix pairing in NE…..

  12. Also, not trying to be a dick here because I respect just about everyone’s opinion on this board, but I keep reading about Yosh Nijman & Im not sure I get it. He’s basically a half decent swing guy who lost his reps to Rasheed Walker, who’s also half decent. I just don’t get it. We have a ton of cap space, a terrible OL & a 2nd year QB who takes a ton of hits throwing downfield. There’s zero reason to be taking half measures here. A guy like this isn’t going to move the meter at all, just stick with Radunz then.

I get the concern about dropping a huge contract on Onwenu for example, but at least you’re getting a stud. Since drafted he’s been at worst a good lineman, at his best a dominant one. He’s huge & basically immovable in pass pro. And he’s done it at both guard positions & RT.

@rns90I get what you’re saying about not wanting to invest too much in an interior guy or RT, but unfortunately that’s the situation we’re in. Our line is terrible. It’s going to take more than just drafting a LT & signing a value piece or two. Especially when we’re far from guaranteed that we’re going to get the best LT in the draft & the team may not even want to draft him. We’re gonna have to drop some coin on the line, especially with the offense BC wants to run…..

The amount of stock that gets put into unprepared answers to random reporters questions never ceases to amaze me.

Exactly. Carthon said the EXACT same thing every coach or GM says. Every single time. Accuracy, anticipation, and always toughness. I still remember Norm Chow coming here & saying toughness is the most important thing he looks for in a QB. Except a guy like Jeff George, who has the intestinal fortitude of a wall shingle, would be the 1st pick in the draft every single year because he has an arm from the Gods. These guys just give canned answers…….

  14. I don’t think there’s a chance we’re drafting Bowers either. But it’s kindve funny how triggered you guys are over him. It’s weird. It’s almost like anger. I’m a huge combine guy but I’ve never seen so much focus on traits while ignoring the fact that the kid was EASILY the best TE as a true freshman.

And for all the focus on his size, he ran a 4.5 flat & had a 36 inch vertical in HIS, which is pretty nuts. Just put on the film for a minute & it’s obvious how good he is.

It seems like everybody is expecting him to drop to Indy & I have a bad feeling  this thread is going to age poorly.

@Mythos27 is spot on regarding Mims there isn't Isaiah Wilson character stuff to worry about its his lack of experience and potential future durability concerns.

Fashanu has some durability concerns as well. He’s only made 20 starts & couldn’t get thru the combine….

  16. 10 minutes ago, Mythos27 said:

I agree it's not fair to hold the Georgia thing against him but there is some logic to it. I do wonder how forthright they are with teams about things that happen down there that only they could disclose. My bigger concerns are the injury history, the lack of experience playing overall, and the fact that he has like 0 LT reps. You don't take a guy with that many question marks at #7 overall.

It would have to be a trade down. But Alt most likely is a goner by 7 & if they decide they want to wait till 2 to pick a WR, at this point I think I prefer a trade down for Mins then stick & pick Fashanu. Which is why I hope we pay Tyron Smith whatever it takes to get him here. Then you can slowly develop Mims to takeover at LT.

I don’t know, maybe it’s not prudent. I guess what I’m sortve getting at is I’m ready for this effin team to take some athletic freaks. I’m so sick of watching every draft & we NEVER take a freak show. Ever. Last year was a perfect example. And this is nothing against Soears who I absolutely love, but of course we take a RB & then the next pick Miami takes the fastest back in years & he averages 10 yards a carry.  We never get THAT guy. I’m sick of it.

  17. 17 minutes ago, Mythos27 said:

I was also more impressed by his actual tape than I expected to be. He was absolutely dominant on a lot of reps in both pass pro and run blocking. His injury history and inexperience scare the hell out of me though. There is also the whole Georgia OT stigma which is likely unfair to the kid but it's hard for me to overlook given our history. If he hits, he'll be a perennial pro bowler. The traits are nuts on tape. I did expect his testing numbers to be a little better though.  The arm length on him is also insane. When he uses his hands well pass rushers don't even get close to his body.

Did you see his interviews? He’s a really engaging kid, witty & funny. A real good kid. I have zero character concerns. I know Wilson also had a good personality & wound up being nuts, but talking about 1st rd picks here, it’s just too important. We can’t hold the Wilson pick against him.

  18. I’m starting to think the media doesn’t realize the Titans are an NFL organization. We pick 7th & I haven’t heard a single mention of our team once. I think something like 94% of mock drafts have us taking Alt but I just hear about the Giants & Chargers picking him. Every LT in FA where they discuss the best fits, not a single mention of the Titans who have the most cap space & the worst LT’s ever.

I didn’t think it possible but there might be less interest in the Titans then there’s even been. Media people would rather bleed from their eyes then mention us.

It was more of a compliment of Coleman, as opposed to a slight of Odunze.

He makes sense to some teams in the Top 10.  I still see him as a possession receiver as opposed to someone defenses will have to actively gameplan for, or who will be able to generate offense on his own (like AJ Brown).  Possession receivers can be very valuable and productive, not all are equal.  But there are good WRs like that who will be available on Day 2 as well, and it's not worth passing over the massive need at LT IMO

Dude how do you get possession WR out of Odunze? You keep harping on this, he’s literally the opposite of that. Did you watch him play? He was probably the most consistent downfield guy in the country last year.

Youre also cherry-picking one random drill, the gauntlet, that Keon Coleman hit one MPH faster on then Odunze as some kind of validation that we should  pass on Rome to pick Coleman later. Did you notice that Odunze crushed him in every other drill? Or much more importantly had 300 more yards receiving last year than Coleman had in his ENTIRE COLLEGE CAREER?

  20. 51 minutes ago, Mythos27 said:

Whoa, whoa I didn't talk about money at all lol. I agree that 10 is too high and if that's what it takes I'm rather draft a guy.

That’s what they’re saying his contr t is going to be, 9-10. But that’s not even my problem with him. He is electric, but he’s tiny & has had drop problems since college. He apparently had a lot of drops last season as well. I just feel like if we’re gonna sign a WR, I’d rather go big. If not, I’d prefer to just give Trey Burks the reps over a Mooney cause I still really believe in his upside.

    What’s your thoughts on CGJ?
