TitanicoNFLriotFAN
What's the reason to bring an article where one needs to pay? Nice way to spam. And an uncalled effort.

big2033
I can one sec. I've been wondering what our policies are in posting this stuff ... but to be honest their content on the Titans has been worth it. Pragidealist

Popular Post big2033
The article by Trent Dilfer essentially cements many of the things we already know: Mariota is being scouted as a QB that on rhythm throws is deadly accurate to his primary read but struggled getting to his others. He also stands too “tall” in the pocket and not “strong” in the pocket. When a QB is too “tall” his back leg loses its load and the QB can’t generate enough quick twitch power. Think of Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers and how they maintain that angle in their back leg as they climb in the pocket. Mariota has the tendency to stand too tall and lose the load in his back leg, which leads to inconsistencies with ball speed and location. --- The biggest issue with Mariota in the pocket has been when he is rushed from the inside to his throwing arm side. The great pocket QBs will slide and climb away from pressure, but stay in the pocket and maintain a passing profile. Mariota tends to run away from this pressure or drop his eyes as he is trying to get away from the defender in the pocket. And it creates chaos in the pocket. Pro Football Focus grades players when they are moved off their spot, and they’re good indicators of how a QB performs when things get uncomfortable. According to PFF, Mariota’s grade for 2017 and 2018 when moved off his spot is 45. The league average is 48. This puts him in the company of Eli Manning, Joe Flacco and Jameis Winston. --- That said, Dilfer goes on to say that MNF was a turning point. "I believe Mariota will continue to grow under the training and system provided by offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur. LaFleur is a fantastic coach who has learned from the best. He has worked with Mike and Kyle Shanahan as well as Sean McVay. His time coaching RG3 has given him a unique perspective on how to maximize the strengths of an athletic QB. For the past three years the tape definitely showed a lack of trust in the play calling, which didn’t allow for Mariota to play free. The Mariota-LaFleur combination is still in its infancy, but you could clearly see the trust Mariota had in every call LaFleur made Monday night." ---- The best thing to takeaway from all this is Mariota is being scouted as a QB who can run but is rattled when moved off his spot or primary read. Dilfer argued that this is because he's had to learn 3 different systems over the years and maybe didn't trust the last one. Think about it, if you're learning a new system are you going to understand every throw in that play or are you going to trust and understand the first read? So the more he understands every nuance of every play the more free he'll play and the better he'll get. You're the guy who spent 2 or 3 pages of a thread arguing that Marcus was so bad with his timing, accuracy and reading defenses that he needed to be benched and Gabbert should be the starter.
