ML57
Guy was pretty productive after signing for TEN and then found himself benched this season before asking for his release. He's not old, he's productive, his salary wasn't crazy.

Number9
I really thought something went way wrong with him leaving. Everybody was like let the doorknob hit you, but the damn door hit us. I think you always have to play the long game. You don't like a player, he pisses you off? Wait until you have a replacement, then run him off. Stan
Sharpe beat up a guy and he’s still on the team but Matthews is out spoken and he’s gone.. so Robinson values what DecepticonShawn, and titanruss 1
NashvilleNinja
What happened is Matthews is a self-absorbed diva. Always was, might always be. And all the retro-bullshit about him abandoning ship is nothing but.

ML57
Thanks for the replies. Curious because the Jets worked him out today with 3 WR's injured and his production and age don't look like a guy who should be getting released. CaliTitan3518
Matthews asked for his release. He wasn’t happy that the younger guys were getting playing time and he wasn’t getting targets. Didn’t they have issues with the way we handled his injury? ctm
Matthews asked for his release according to the media reports. But his entire base salary, 5M, is dead money on the cap this year according to spotrac. The Titans essentially paid him to leave if that is correct. nine
Matthews didn’t want to play for the team anymore and asked to be released. JRob gave Matthews a couple days off to think about it... Matthews decided he still wanted out, so JRob granted his wish and released him. Alcibiades
TitanDuckFan
Little known secret,... But Matthews hates Pineapple, Coconut, Spam and all things Hawaiian. He's completely biased against anything Islander, including Rugby, Kona blend coffee and even Hibiscus flowers. He just couldn't stand the thought of having to catch one more pass from Marcus freaking Mariota. There, see? Marcus is even responsible for that too. Happy?
