Popular Post OILERMAN
There are a few things about the passing game that stand out to me. I can't get over how much different Mariota is on play action vs. straight drop back passing. Mariota had 8 play action passes yesterday, he was 5 for 8 for 50 yards. Nothing great, that's an 80.2 passer rating. But on straight drop backs Mariota had a 38.8 passer rating. 9-18 79 yards and an INT. BTW, on the INT Mariota was going to Williams the whole time and stared at Williams the whole way which was why the DB was able to break on the ball. The dropped TD obviously changes these stats but this goes all the way back to last year and beyond. The stats are still mediocre if Williams catches that pass. Mariota was the best passer on play action last year and had the biggest differential in the NFL from play action and drop back passing. The other thing is just how simple the passing design is. Everything is one read stuff, A lot of the passes are 1 yard or less and Mariota is never asked to make multiple reads. It looked to me like the Bills did a good job taking away Mariota's 1st read a lot of times and the wheels just fell off. The play where Mariota was getting sacked he was going to Lewis all the way and the Bills jumped it, he threw it straight up and was picked barely out of bounds. The first play of the game all 4 receivers all ran routes about 5 yards(This play would have been dissected for days last year!) and when the first read was covered he bailed from the pocket. Even last week 29 attempts were either 1 yard or play action. The Eagles secondary is getting shredded by everyone too. There is no doubt Mariota was awesome in the 2nd half last week but that's def the exception and not the rule and the Eagles are terrible covering. Cry and make all the excuses you want but this is two coaching staff treating Mariota this way. In this game without Lewan Mariota should have been dropping back and getting the ball out quickly and picking the Bills part with a short passing game spreading the field. The way good QBs get around poor pass pro is with a quick passing game. They weren't about to try that. titanruss
The passing offense this week looked a lot like malarkey last year. There’s was a few all curls at 5 yards. Last week it wasn’t 1 read all day. This week was different. Still wasn’t 1 read but there was a few plays more. titanruss
He threw the ball away while getting sacked. It wasn’t “ picked out of bounds” theres no such thing. Highpockets84, and Pray_iv_m3rcy
oldschool
I think russ may be onto something about vrabel stepping in and telling Lafleur how to run the offense yesterday. There are lots of things that can be done to offset losing a LT snd they didnt do anything. nine

You arent using real data to see where it takes you. You are starting from a conclusion and cherry picking data to support it. The Williams INT is a perfect example of this. I think his head got big because of the wildcat install and the 4th down attempts.. his buddy JRob wants to use Henry more too.. and lafleur is probably not a loud enough personality for a guy like vrabel to allow to have full control. You are destroying your cred. First of all it was just a few weeks ago you said Mularkey may have ruined Mariota and you were concerned. You;ve already posted concerns yourself. 2nd of all Mariota has more INTs than TDs and a passer rating in the 70s just like last year. I'm so embarrassed that the results so far are the same with the new staff. Don't you mean solidifying my cred
