1ST HALF

TITANS 1ST DRIVE:

Titans first drive was ultimately successful, although the missed connection to Corey Davis was disappointing. Henry had a nice catch on the first pass of the game to pick up the first down and Mariota/Davis made up for the missed connection for another long pass down the field for a big gain. The biggest disappointment on that drive was obviously Jonnu Smith and his inexplicable dropped pass on 3rd down that would have picked up the 1st down. And it sucks because Mariota did a great job of escaping and maneuvering around the Eagles pass rush that was collapsing the pocket to make a great pass. Smith just fucked up. But we at least got points out of the drive, which turned out to be the margin of victory at the end.

Titans 3 Eagles 0

EAGLES 1ST DRIVE:

Pass rush was a problem for the Eagles from early on. Two near sacks, one from Jayon Brown that caused the incomplete pass on 3rd and 9. Punt.

TITANS 2ND DRIVE (interesting info from Fox that the Titans have been outscoring opponents 23-0 in 1st qtr this year):

Corey Davis had a notable catch to pick up a first down, but other than that there was an incomplete pass, a minimal gain by Henry on the ground, and Mariota getting sacked. Punt.

EAGLES 2ND DRIVE:

First pass went to Ertz, who absolutely ate up the middle of the field today with 10 receptions on 14 targets for 112 yards. Butler had a big sack right after that, followed by Harold Landry tackling one of the RB in the backfield for a loss of yards. Eagles were in 3rd and 21. The pass rush got into Wentz face, although he got the pass off, and Logan Ryan forced an incomplete pass. Punt. Defense was nasty this series.

TITANS 3RD DRIVE

We started out backed up against the end zone due to Cruikshank's penalty on the return, but Taywan had a couple of nice catches that got us out of that predicament. Dion Lewis had a great reception where he turned nothing into something and almost got the first down. Maybe a 7 yard gain? Can't rememeber. Mariota also picked up the 1st down on a QB run after a fake hand off to Lewis. I remember he got up into the face of the defender and talked some shit. Fiesty. Taywan had a big opportunity to catch a big pass, but the ball bounced off his hands. There was pass interference on this play that wasn't called, but Taylor needs to catch shit that hits his hands like that. Tajae Sharpe had good effort, almost picked up 1st down, but we punted.

Hot take - Titans fans who allowed so many Eagles fans into the stadium should be ashamed.

EAGLES 3RD DRIVE:

The Eagles started out backed up against the 5 yard line with a great punt by Kern, but Ajayi had a good run on 1st down to negate that. Second run not so great. Wentz got passes off to Jeffrey and Agholor, but a dropped pass and good pressure and coverage and a near sack caused by Casey and Landry forced the punt.

TITANS 4TH DRIVE:

Henry had one of his better plays of the day for 14 yards. Took the Titans out of bad field position. Davis had a nice 14 yard catch for the 1st down, but Lewis got stuffed one on one (rare) and Taylor had the incomplete pass to the outside shoulder that led to a punt. Another great punt by Kern put the ball out of bounds at the 3 or 4 yard line.

The offense was moving the ball pretty well up to this point, but dropped passes were starting to retard efforts.

EAGLES 4TH DRIVE:

Wentz had pressure in his face in the end zone, but Ertz bailed him out once again. The Eagles started moving the ball more on this series. We had a forced fumble on this drive, but the Eagles got it back. Ertz was big on this drive. Picked up a first down and had another big gain. We got decent pass rush on the next play, but Wentz got it off to Matthews, who burned Butler for the touchdown.

Titans 3 Eagles 7

TITANS 5TH DRIVE:

Mariota got sacked on a weak play that didn't seem too inspired. The Eagles pass rush ate the Oline's lunch on this play. Next play was an overthrown pass to Corey Davis. Eagles fans started to get noisy. Next pass to Taylor was short of the first down. Punt.

Hot Take - You really started to notice the momentum shift at this point and the Eagles started moving the ball more easily as the defense started to get tired due to the offense's inability to stay on the field.

EAGLES 5TH DRIVE:

This drive started around the 2 min warning. They got multiple first downs on this series. Pees finally gets them there with a biltz, Vaccaro had a near-sack. Then came the big sack by Sharif Finch, which created 3rd and 19. A false start by the Eagles backed them up to 3rd and 24. Smallwood got a chunk of that back, but he was well short of the 1st down. Punt.

- I believe this series was where Vaccaro got injured.

TITANS 6TH DRIVE:

Mariota's interception. Awful play. I don't know whose fault it was, although I'm leaning toward Mariota. Maybe his hand wasn't right, but the rest of the game wouldn't lend too much credit to that idea. Mariota was fire for the rest of the day after this.

EAGLES 6TH DRIVE: First pass to Ertz. Incomplete pass on 2nd in end zone. Stuffed run on 3rd, field goal.

Ertz had a catch, but a pass on 2nd down into the end zone was incomplete and the next play was a stuffed run. Field goal.

Titans 3 Eagles 10

HALFTIME OVERVIEW

Overall the team played well, but multiple drops from the receivers, a mostly ineffectual running game, a tired defense, and horrible pick by Mariota undid the good. We had plenty of opportunities to score more than 3 points.

It seemed like the Eagles were starting to figure out the defense a little, but not enough to where they were doing whatever they want. Ertz had his way with the middle of the field in spots, and he had a lot of catched that kept drives alive for them.

2ND HALF

EAGLES 7TH DRIVE:

They were moving the ball hard on us this drive. Ertz was again killing the middle of the field and Geodert got involved too a little. We still had a good pass rush at this point, but the Eagles seemed like they'd finally adjusted and were connecting more on big pass plays. Kevin Byard had the bad pass interference call which put them into good scoring position. A pass to Joffrey picked up the 1st down and gave them 1st and goal. This was when we had the forced fumble that got batted back toward the field of play, but Byard fell on it out of bounds, which gave the ball back to the Eagles at the spot. Pass rush forced a couple of holding calls that moved them back another 20 yards. Will Compton then had the play where he almost got flagged for roughing, but it got picked up. Jeffrey then catches the pass in the end zone for the touchdown.

Titans 3 Eagles 17

Hot Take - It felt like the game was close to being over at this point and the offense hadn't even gotten the ball in the 2nd half yet.

TITANS 7TH DRIVE:

Mariota gets the drive started with a 3 yard run, followed by a screen pass to Jennings for around 6 yards. Davis had to go up for a high ball, but came down with it to pick up the 1st down. DHenry, the shit headed tard, then fumbles the ball and losses 12 yards. Dion Lewis saves his ass though and nearly gets the first down with a big time, tough run after catch. Sharpe follows up with a big 1st down pick up. CDavis draws the key pass interference call which put us inside the 5 yard line. First time we were in the red zone all day. Henry had a tough 2 or 3 yard run. Mariota then drops back to pass, but Eagles have great coverage so he takes off and dives into the end zone for the first Titan touchdown of the day.

Titans 10 Eagles 17

Hot take - That touchdown and drive was vital as it got a little bit of the momentum back that we started losing in the 2nd quarter. It also gave the defense a much needed breather.

Hot take - Dion Lewis saved Derrick Henry's ass on this drive big time. If it weren't for that long run after catch we may have had to punt after Henry's fumble backed us up.

EAGLES 8TH DRIVE:

Landry closes in on Wentz and catches him on a scramble, which may have gotten the Eagles a 1st down. Wentz pass to a RB picks up the first down. Then came a sack by Jayon Brown and then a frustrated incomplete pass. 3rd and 20. This is when Harold Landry makes his presence known with the sack forced fumble, which we FINALLY recover. Seemed like we've had a few opportunities for turnovers this year off fumbles but the opposing team had always fallen on them. But not this time!

Hot take - I think Harold Landry has probably solidified himself as the team's best pass rusher since Jevon Kearse. There's a lot of football left to be played, but this guy is a terror who is already drawing double teams.

TITANS 8TH DRIVE:

Taywan Taylor starts out the drive with a nice little fingertip catch for 6 yards. Lewis bailed Mariota out from the pass rush and nearly picked up the 3rd and 1. LaFleur then called a run up the gut with Lewis that got stuffed, which made me scratch my head. Seemed like an odd play call there. But we decide to go for it. Mariota scrambles and looks like he's going to tuck it and take off but decides at the last possible second to toss it to Lewis and we pick up the 1st down. Mariota totally sold that play with his scrambling, which he put to good use all day. Henry had a 4 yard run, but the pass to Henry got sniffed out for negative yards. Drive ends in field goal.

Hot take - The field goal was a disappointing outcome after going for it on 4th down, but ultimately it benefitted the team more because we still got points on top of giving the defense more time on the sideline to rest. The 4th down call was just an omen for what would happen later.

Titans 13 Eagles 17

EAGLES 9TH DRIVE:

A somewhat stuffed run on 1st down, a tackle by AJax, and a concentration gaffe by Agholor on an off-target throw by Wentz leads to an incomplete pass. Punt.

TITANS 9TH DRIVE:

Corey Davis has his biggest catch of the day for 51 yards that he almost broke for a touchdown. Followed by a 9 yard scramble by Mariota. Then Taylor had the nice sweep play that went to pick up the 1st down and a bit more. Nearly went for a touchdown if not for good defensive play. 1st and goal at the 9 yard line. Derrick Henry with the laughable run and tackle for loss of yards. Mariota then tosses the touchdown to Tajae Sharpe. Great drive.

Hot take - Derrick Henry is as useful as a nipple on an eyelid.

Titans 20 Eagles 17

EAGLES 10TH DRIVE:

Great pass rush forced the incomplete pass. Smallwood had a 1st down pick up, but small gains on the ground followed by an incomplete pass to Ertz brings 4th down. Punt. One of the biggest stops on the day by the defense.

TITANS 10TH DRIVE:

QB keeper went for a minimal 1 yard gain. Corey Davis had a catch that he nearly picked up the 1st down on, but wound up at 3rd and short at the 2 minute warning. Pass to Davis in a bunch formation only went for a couple yards. Punt.

EAGLES 11TH DRIVE:

Eagles had the huge return to put them past midfield. Big letdown after failing to pick up the 1st down on the last drive. Ertz has a big catch to put them inside the 35 yard line. Alson catches one pass and misses another that went into him in the end zone. Ultimately an overthrown pass into the end zone brought up 4th down. Field goal is good, game is tied.

Titans 20 Eagles 20

TITANS 11TH DRIVE:

Knelt on the ball to run out the few seconds left on the clock clock. Headed to OT.

OVERTIME

Eagles win coin toss, receive the ball.

EAGLES 12TH DRIVE:

Eagles moved the ball on us for most of this drive like they were cutting through warm butter, especially on the ground. Smallwood and Ajayi both were gashing us. Butler got burned by Jeffrey for a 1st down pick up. But we finally got into the backfield to tackle Ajayi for a loss. A following incomplete pass brings up 3rd down. Will Compton then nearly picks off the pass, causing it to be incomplete and brings up 4th down. Field goal good. Eagles lead.

Titans 20 Eagles 23

TITANS 12TH DRIVE:

Mariota has big time opportunity to shine and show why we drafted him 2nd overall in 2015. Starts off with a 7 yard scramble. Davis then gains a tough 4 or 5 yards to pick up the 1st down. Fucking noisy ass Eagles fans. Then comes the big drop by Darris Jennings that would have put us close to the red zone. Felt like the end of the game. Next pass is incomplete to Jonnu Smith, bringing up 3rd down. Next pass was overthrown to Corey Davis, bringing up 4th and 10.

Hot take - I fucking hate Eagles fans and the Titans fans who let them into the stadium. Fuck you fuck you fuck you.

Possible last chance pass goes to Taywan Taylor... who seemingly-miraculously picks up the 15 yards for the 1st down. Derrick Henry, the tanked up version, finally decides to show up and run for 8 or 9 yards with a nice stiff arm. Dion Lewis catches the next pass, but gets caught by a shoe string tackle. Next play is a bad low throw to Davis, who didn't have a real shot at catching it, which brings up 4th and 4. Another last chance. The pass to Nick Williams is incomplete, but due to #22's pass interference we get the 1st down. Henry gets stuffed bad on the next play for a loss of 4 yards. Mariota gets knocked down on the next play, bringing up 3rd and long. 2 minute warning. Mariota then takes the ball on the next play and scrambles for a bunch of yards, nearly picking up the first down. 4th down.

Mr Big Balls makes another appearance in the game by deciding to go for it instead of kicking the field goal. Dion Lewis has a huge run and catch for chunk yardage to pick up the 1st down. We then throw a pass into the end zone, drawing a holding call on the defense. Gives us another 1st down. On the next play Sharpe lays out for the pass in end zone, but it's outside of his reach. Incomplete pass. We then call a pass to Davis (on a screen?) but it's dropped, which is probably a blessing in disguise as he may have been tackled and left the clock ticking. Next pass is the one to Corey Davis, which he climbs the sky ladder for, and comes down with it for the touchdown and wins the game.

Titans 26 Eagles 20

GAME OVERVIEW

The Titans have played a lot of close games in the last two or three years, but outside of the Kansas City playoff game I can't remember any of them having the feel of importance that this one had. We took the reigning Super Bowl champs into overtime. That alone was something I couldn't see this team accomplishing a year ago. But we didn't just take them to overtime. We beat their asses in overtime.

Mariota is the real deal. Corey Davis is the real deal. Harold Landry's Superman is the real deal to Jurrell Casey's Batman. Matt LaFleur is the real deal. And Mr Big Balls is the real deal. This was an absolute statement game to the rest of the league. Pay attention, errbody. The Boys are back in town.

Word on Vaccaro?

look like he dislocated his elbow

If it was just dislocated he could have it reduced and likely only misses a week... if that.

If it just needed to be reduced he honestly could play next week but I don’t see them playing him at Buffalo just bc we should really beat the snot out of them

Regarding the early throw to Davis...

It really depends on when exactly CD made that hesitation. If he made that hesitation before Marcus winded up to throw, Marcus is at fault. But it kinda seems like Marcus had just released it when CD made that hesitation, which caused the slight overthrow.

Bullshit.  There was a hitch in his route.  That is a schemed timing play all the way.

I know. I'm saying Marcus isn't at fault. But if Marcus saw CD hesitate a bit before he threw it THEN it would be his fault because he threw it too far.
