code Posted August 19, 2018 Report Share Posted August 19, 2018 A few thoughts. Been said many times before but the biggest upgrade to this roster is clearly the coaching staff. I was surprised watching Vrabel last night ... as he kept a smile on his face through the muck of second and third stringers getting eaten alive by Winston and crew. Expected him to be a raging lunatic. Instead saw a guy completely in control and wholly confident. Equally impressed by Matt Lafleur. We are going to see a lot of short rhythm passes and a heavy dose of stretching the field horizontally ... both of which plays into Marcus strengths. Not quite as confident on the defensive side. But, our defense is still playing without multiple starters. Pittsburgh game should provide a better reflection point. The final 53 below has plenty of opportunity to be ugly wrong. We have seen the starting units for less than a quarter of play. But, it's preseason and I do this every year. Maybe this year I will finally get it right. AussieTitanFan08 Posted August 19, 2018 Report Share Posted August 19, 2018 wouldn't count Wadley as a lock for the 53 yet, he is in a battle with Dawkins for that RB 4 spot. if we keep 4 TE's they might go with Firkser ahead of Semisch. due to his versatility Pamphile will win the final OL spot. Cruikshank will make the initial 53, depending on health he might go on IR after that. unless we go out and add another veteran S, Trawick probably makes the 53 due to special teams ability. no idea what they do with CB 5 or 6, Reed is currently carrying some kind of lower leg injury and most of the other guys have been ordinary in preseason action so far, by default Gafford might get a spot due to his athletic ability and special teams value. WR 6 is wide open with Jennings probably in front right now, but they might view Burnett as having a higher longer term upside, couldn't rule out JRob adding someone here after league wide roster cuts. kyle021 Posted August 19, 2018 Report Share Posted August 19, 2018 Williams may start in slot if Matthews doesn’t get back on the field soon. Davis and Taylor are locked as the 1&2 but Taylor will be bumped to 3 if Matthews comes back. WR actually looks strong on the field compared to paper. Scheme has a lot to do with it but let’s not forget how insane talented Davis and Taylor are and Williams looks like a reliable keeper as a slot guy. Huston Posted August 19, 2018 Report Share Posted August 19, 2018 Williams is not starting material and at this point Mathews is the third wr with all the time he has missed, plus he doesn't have the speed needed to stay on the field for all 3 downs in this offense.
