I'd run him just enough to make the defense think about it. no he's not. unless he's as durable as cam newton, just avoid it. 1 called run a game is almost too much. he can scramble and get yards and they worry about him... have to spy. they can still run play action and bootleg passes... rollouts.. etc. make them know they have to cover in front of him or hes getting and easy 8 yards every time. but there is zero reason to run him like a normal running play. They brought LaFleur in under the cover of the head coach search, even though no one thought he had a chance at the job, and they offered him the OC job. He either turned it down, said that he needed too much time to think about it, or said that he wanted complete control of the offense and they didn't want to give him that at the time. They then went to option B, which was Day. After Day turned them down, LaFleur either had a change of heart or they gave in and let him have complete control. Just my opinion of events. Much of this sounds right but it doesnt really make sense to me in that they would limit lafleurs control of the offense. Who else would contribute there? he's the only one that could ever b in control if he's the OC. Vrabel? I dont think JRob is really that dumb. Far more likely scenario is that JRob -knew he wanted Vrabel. -brought in Lafleur as a sham HC interview (so it looks like we searched) & to better understand what he would do with mariota ... possibly with the secret idea of bringing him on as an OC if Vrabel approved. - Vrabel thought he was too feminine because he like steroids - Vrabel asked his old buddy because hes a frat boy. - Vrabel got turned down so they went with option 2 who they knew would accept because he got to call plays and vrabel thinks he can control. Even a good OC like Heimerdinger didn’t have full control of the offense. He still deferred to Fish. I would say that most OC do not have full control. But smart art coaches get the fuck out of the way. Youre stretching logic to match your hopeful assumptions a lot today.

I don’t think that’s true. He said that initially when he was hired but said when LaFleur was hired that he would be hands off on the offense. He didn’t say that about the defense. I think he means hands off in terms of building it. But he can still make a call whenever he wants. Any HC can. Otherwise, who’s in charge?

I agree in principle; the QB position is simply too important. But the fact is, a well-timed and well-designed QB run is extremely effective... and Marcus has become very smart about protecting himself on these plays. On a designed run he'll take what's readily available (usually 8-10 yards) then step out of bounds or slide without a defender laying a hand on him. It would be one thing if these plays were only moderately effective or if he was often putting himself in harm's way...but that's not the case. I definitely agree that QB runs shouldn't be a staple and that the mere threat of Marcus running is enough to influence a defense....but it's only a threat if opponents know it can happen. The only way to make them respect it is by actually doing it every once in a while.
NashvilleNinja
Ok... now that we've sussed out everyone's honest expectations... What is everyone's dishonest expectations for the '18 offense and individual players?
