How Trump Wins by Bashing the News Media

Recommended Posts

Conservatives have been attacking the “liberal media” for decades. At least back to the Nixon days. They hate the media exposing them.

But back then people couldn’t just tune out the real news and switch on right wing spin like Fox, Breitbart, Rush, etc and pretend it’s news. Nowadays conservatives are totally divorced from reality in many cases. They never pay attention to real news so they buy whatever the right wing propaganda arm is telling them hook line and sinker.

Conservatives have been attacking the liberal media for decades because they clearly have been biased.   The left would certainly do the same if the situation was reversed.    To make matters worse, you had libtards like yourself that refused to acknowledge the liberal bias despite the mountains of evidence.   It is a shock that people got fed up with the mainstream liberal media and don't listen to them anymore?

No one said the propaganda started with Trump. He just took it farther down the course it was already going and took advantage of the situation.

It's facts and science that have a liberal bias but instead of believing that you turn away from both.

He saw how willingly you'll believe lies bc of your distrust of the left that's been built over the past decade+.

Please provide specific examples of the kinds of bias that you are referring to as evidence.

Nixon called the mainstream media biased for their “attacks” on him, but they were generally right about him. Were they biased for reporting on Watergate? Were they biased for their reporting on Vietnam, which today is universally seen as a disaster? Were they biased on his handling of the economy, which caused major inflation? Were they biased about his support of pro-desegregation forces in the south, which was absolutely true? It simply isn’t bias to report negative things when there is a negative thing to report.

Do people have bias? Sure. Do different media sources have some level of bias coming from the top? Sure, to some extent, but in the case of most of the mainstream so-called liberal media it’s pretty minimal. Not remotely like the right wing bias of a Fox News.

The best job a journalist could do is tell the truth. When they do that, they'll be good at what they do.

As long as they sling opinionated articles trying to make Trump the big bad wolf, they'll continue to fail.

But what if he was? There is no way at this point that truth would be accepted. It would be dismissed categorically.

That's the point of the OP article - broadly speaking certain things will very likely be dismissed as MSM bias etc. It's a toxic mindset because it's predetermining where truth can come from. Do you honestly think the truth, if it is not pleasant for Trump, would come from the same places that write articles with the Russian foreign minister as their sole source?

Bias is unfortunate but it shouldn't reach a point where perceived bias means you dismiss all and everything on those grounds. CNN etc obviously publish many factual truthful things every day, but if one of those factual truthful publications happens to be about Trump and it puts him in a bad light, it will be dismissed by many - this is a problem. Ultimately it hurts the people dismissing it - ignoring truth is rarely a good outcome.

If the truth is not good for Trump, then it's going to come from the MSM (some, anyway), not the right blogosphere. Of course the left leaning side of MSM will be first to jump on it and push it the hardest - the truth always has the potential to benefit one political side over another. That doesn't make it any less true.

See... I already had an obvious explanation for that...

Hitler gets a lot of negative press. So does Timothy McVeigh. And AIDS. Biased journalism?

If you ignore it for petty reasons, it's only hurting you.

I'm not sure what you expect from an admin with a campaign being openly investigated for links to Russia, troubles getting clearances for key staff, negative leaks, constant firings, embarrassing encounters with other world leaders, pathetic twitter rants from the mind of a 10 year old kid. If 90% isn't the fair number, it wouldn't be far from it. Just think for a second how any of this could be reported positively - you'd basically have to go out of your way as a news outlet to simply lie, or just not report it. The reality is it's all in the public interest and worth reporting.

If those are the topics that interest you, then you are surely having a good time.

Dont worry about the economy. It's too hard to understand for most people. They would rather dither on about other things.

As I said, these are all things that media should report. There is surely some bias, but they literally can't help it if the vast majority of reportable news makes Trump look bad. Honestly it sounds to me like the playbook for the right is to dispute the facts, and when that is untenable, dispute why they need to be reported.
