IsntLifeFunny
Man, this is wild. This afternoon, the Gateway Pundit received a tip from a father of one of the Parkland school shooter survivors. Concerned and enraged, he confirmed what Gateway Pundit previously reported: these children are being used as political tools by the far left to further anti-Conservative rhetoric and an anti-gun agenda. The students at the forefront of this agenda were all peers of his child, they were all members of the same drama club at their high school. This fact was verified and confirmed by Buzzfeed who sent a reporter to visit the student activists at their “command center” at one of their homes. Buzzfeed reported on, but left unexplored, the fact that these students are theater-trained: Hogg’s intrepid journalistic spirit is better explained when one learns he’s an avid CNN fan, having toured the Atlanta headquarters and sporting the Fake News Network’s shirt in several photos. His liberal and anti-Trump views on Twitter help explain why CNN is so eager to elevate him as a spokesman for the current anti-gun movement.

OzTitan
The actor thing appears to be about trying to make one of the kids out to be a "crisis actor" - someone media uses to act as witnesses, victims etc for news stories that push an agenda. The natural progression there of course is the suggestion the shooting was a hoax (otherwise why bring it up?). https://www.snopes.com/2018/02/20/right-wing-media-david-hogg/ Yet another crazy conspiracy of course from the crazy conspiracy people on the right. Not sure why it would surprise anyone that drama students would gravitate to the front of an issue like this, they are typically the more confident and media trained students. Is the father quoted in the OP a father of one of these kids? Makes it sound like his kid is a an acquaintance. If so, I don't know if that constitutes close enough access for it to be significant - false rumors spread through schooling groups all the time (of course). I'd expect any of the pro gun people close to this but not necessarily directly affected to look for reasons to not change their mind.

Former FBI agent. But again, it’s a shame that those who criticize conservatives are always biased. Be it their color, their race, age, religion, family’s careers...they always have an agenda and can’t be objective. As we all know, only conservatives can be objective, and even then, only some (lots of RINOs and deep state actors). Really best to just trust conservatives implicitly and just not worry about it. Safe to say that anyone who criticizes conservatives comes from a deep and unjustified bias (MSM really). .... Oof... that was painful to write. Is it that hard to come to a common set of facts? Why does a school shooting have to become another liberal conspiracy rather than admit that our gun control laws are pathetic. Why is it so hard to face reality? Also, Gateway Pundit should be prepared to be sued (again). Edited February 21, 2018 by Cyrus

ctm
SAN FRANCISCO — One hour after news broke about the school shooting in Florida last week, Twitter accounts suspected of having links to Russia released hundreds of posts taking up the gun control debate. “This is pretty typical for them, to hop on breaking news like this,” said Jonathon Morgan, chief executive of New Knowledge, a company that tracks online disinformation campaigns. “The bots focus on anything that is divisive for Americans. Almost systematically.” Those automated Twitter accounts have been closely tracked by researchers. Last year, the Alliance for Securing Democracy, in conjunction with the German Marshall Fund, a public policy research group in Washington, created a website that tracks hundreds of Twitter accounts of human users and suspected bots that they have linked to a Russian influence campaign. The researchers zeroed in on Twitter accounts posting information that was in step with material coming from well-known Russian propaganda outlets. To spot an automated bot, they looked for certain signs, like an extremely high volume of posts or content that conspicuously matched hundreds of other accounts. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/19/technology/russian-bots-school-shooting.html The fundamental problem is that Russia is conducting information warfare against the US and thus you don't know what is real and who to believe. Meanwhile, Trump does nothing about it and tries everyday to undermine the credibility of the main stream media. ctm
February 20, 2018 05:36 PM Even as they rode buses to Tallahassee on Tuesday as the newest and most powerful political voices for gun control in America, an outspoken group of students who survived the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school shooting found themselves under attack again. This time, it came on social media. Conservative pundits, outlets and social media posters on Tuesday hit airwaves and social media hard. Some raised absurd conspiracy theories that kids who just endured a horrifying assault are actually “crisis actors” trained to stage “false flag” events. Others questioned the motivations and political backing of students who have been praised by mainstream media, Democratic politicians, gun control groups and talk show hosts like HBO’s John Oliver. The Tampa Bay Times reported that an aide to Florida Rep. Shawn Harrison, a Republican from Hillsborough County, used state email to send a photo of two students with this message to a reporter: “Both kids in the picture are not students here but actors that travel to various crisis when they happen.” That’s false. ctm
The teenagers of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., who a week ago lost 17 of their classmates and school staff members in a mass shooting, have emerged as passionate advocates for reform, speaking openly of their anger in the hope of forcing a reckoning on guns. But in certain right-wing corners of the web — and, increasingly, from more mainstream voices like Rush Limbaugh and a commentator on CNN — the students are being portrayed not as grief-ridden survivors but as pawns and conspiracists intent on exploiting a tragedy to undermine the nation’s laws. In these baseless accounts, which by Tuesday had spread rapidly on social media, the students are described as “crisis actors,” who travel to the sites of shootings to instigate fury against guns. Or they are called F.B.I. plants, defending the bureau for its failure to catch the shooter. The theories are far-fetched. But they are finding a broad and prominent audience online. On Tuesday, the president’s son Donald J. Trump Jr. liked a pair of tweets that accused David Hogg, a 17-year-old who is among the most outspoken of the Parkland students, of criticizing the Trump administration in an effort to protect his father, whom Mr. Hogg has described as a retired F.B.I. agent. Mr. Hogg, the high school’s student news director, has become a sensation among many liberals for his polished and compelling television interviews, in which he has called on lawmakers to enact tougher restrictions on guns. Just as quickly, Mr. Hogg attracted the disdain of right-wing provocateurs like The Gateway Pundit, a fringe website that gained prominence in 2016 for pushing conspiracies about voter fraud and Hillary Clinton. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/20/business/media/parkland-shooting-media-conspiracy.html
