Episode 157 - The Vrabel Era Begins

Recommended Posts

Jonboy

Mike Vrabel is officially the new Head Coach of the Tennessee Titans. Jonboy and Jamal give their thoughts on the hire by tackling Vrabel's experience, the process of the hire, and his picks for coordinators and assistants. They also cover the details like Vrabel's personality and what offensive and defensive changes we can expect to see going forward. It's one of the longest episodes in a while so hopefully this one holds the fans over until free agency! It's been another fun year for the Two Tone Crew and we appreciate all your support.

Would be good to mention LaFleur’s track record with QBs. And the fact that’s Pees’ worst defense he has ever fielded was 1spot better than last years Titans defense.

like the winds of significant change theory this offseason, both through scheme and personnel.

some of the very early radio interviews Vrabel did right after he got the job hinted we could see some significant personnel changes, although lack of FA options and draft capital might limit how far JRob can go with those changes.

I kind of thought the same thing, but the more I research and and think about it, I feel like changes will be fairly limited.

Your assessments of the press conference were interesting to me. I never thought he came off as cocky or arrogant, but just a guy that was trying to be overly charming because it was his first press conference as a Head Coach. He certainly has a lot of confidence, but I never thought he was an asshole. And I usually have my feelers out for that kind of thing. I think the players and staff will respond well to him and he knows how to communicate with them which is arguably the most important skill as a HC or leader.

Good show though guys. Really enjoyed it.

Also, I really don't think we have to worry about if our current Oline is athletic enough to run LaFleur's offense.

in terms of athleticism:

Lewan>>>>Whitworth

Conklin>>>>>Rob Havenstein

Spain>Saffold

Kline and Jamon Brown are a wash.

I'd say Sullivan is probably better off than Jones.

Now, it's obviously not black and white and there's a lot of variables, but I really don't think that's a specific concern. I do think we could improve the IOL a great deal, but I don't there's any concern for Conklin and I think we'll be fine if we only upgrade one or two spots. Preferably Kline and Jones. You all know my belief in Q though.
