I'm Not Sure Rishard Matthews Has The Right Attitude

They Should Pay Us More," Matthews Continued.

"We do get paid a good, hefty amount, but for this we should get paid more, too. Because we don’t get paid enough for this. Some guys have bonuses, but it needs to be for everybody.”

It could be the way the article is written, but he comes off bitchy to me. This along with his attitude about Andre Johnson kind of turns me off. This is definitely not a team first attitude.  It all make signing Eric Decker mor attractive in my mind.

Interesting article.  They either need to do away with voluntary workouts or make them mandatory and pay them additionally for it.

The voluntary mini-camp/off season stuff is a pretty big scam by the league. They can negotiate in the CBA all this off time and make this stuff voluntary but the fans and teammates attack the players

The NFLPA is the weakest among all the major sports in the US. Compared to the other 3 sports, NFL players make shit.

It looks like your snippet was directly after a bit of context, with Rishard commenting on Tajae potentially falling behind because he attended OTAs. So from a player's perspective there is risk with no reward -- other than keeping your good standing with team & fans based on something that's voluntary?

“Like I said, with Tajae getting hurt, imagine if he wasn’t here and he was just training, getting ready for training camp,” Matthews said. “Because those things happen and guys can potentially lose their spots because of that.

Yeah, after reading the article I got no ill-will feelings toward anyone.

The getting paid more was specifically about how they have to use their out of pocket money to attend all these "voluntary" things and that there is a lot more work that is necessary than simply just the practice and games they get paid to do. At least that's how I interpreted it with the small anecdote about the Bills player who paid $1,000 to Uber to the "voluntary" practices after missing a flight.

I don't disagree, but what leverage do the players have?
