I read a while back to fix 440 all the concrete needs to be dug up completely even the drainage and substrate underneath it and rebuilt from the bedrock up. Will cost over $100 million so they keep pu

Nashville is one of the most prosperous and growing cities in the nation. Hard to blame our mayors for that. This is shit that's typical for a growing city.

It's a state project.  Dean and Barry have very little to do with it. Don't let that interfere with your silly little rant, though.

They re-paved it a few years ago. When we had a major snow and ice a couple of years ago it tore part of the road up.

It's always a major pain in the ass when they replace a high traffic road. But it will need to be done sooner or later.

They have been doing "exhaustive engineering studies" to determine what to do about it.

There are really only two options:

Tear it up and put down blacktop or tear it up and put down new concrete.  You'll notice that the first part of either option is "tear it up".  As bad as traffic is now, this will make it a lot worse for a couple of years.

The other part of the issue is "dat ole debil money".  Haslam says that this is one of the things we need the increase in gas tax to pay for.

Regardless of what they do or how they pay for it, it's bound to get much worse before it gets better.

Considering the growth rate of the city they need to do it now because the longer they wait the worse it's goong to get.

Why would it need to take two years to replace it?

Lots of stupid lane configurations: if you're going west from 24/40 and want to get on 65 you need to be in the right most lane for 65N but you need to move over a lane to the left for 65S. They kept the east bound lanes messed up for years for the construction but the result was screwed up. If you want to end up on 24E it makes sense to be in the right most lane, especially since they changed the right most lane from being  an exit only lane to Nolensville; only problem is the entrance ramps onto 440E from both directions  on Nolensville have ridiculously short merge lanes and as soon as you hit 24E you're in an exit only lane for Thompson/Briley. It all results in a lot of last second lane changes in an already exacerbating situation during heavy volume periods. Add to it even though the middle and left lanes both empty onto 40 when going east, the middle lane ends causing more jockeying ahead of time which also contributes to slowing things down even more during rush hour.

Holy crap!  I drove on 440 for the first time in a few years this past weekend.....  There's no excuse for letting a busy road like that get into such shape.

The fact that it's a busy road is why it was allowed to get in bad shape.  With it closed down, traffic will be screwed all over town.

Oh well. They should have thought of that before going insane with "progress". It's more than annoying at this point. It's a safety hazzard. Someone is going to blow out a tire and wreck, possibly even get injured or worse, if they haven't already.

It HAS to be done, sooner or later. Better to go ahead and bite the bullet now in the short-term. We'll all be better off for it in the long-term.

I read a while back to fix 440 all the concrete needs to be dug up completely even the drainage and substrate underneath it and rebuilt from the bedrock up. Will cost over $100 million so they keep putting band aids on it and spending money on stupid shit like pedestrian bridges, choreographed dancing water fountains and other roundabout "art".
