The Titans could certainly arrange it though by brokering one of the firsts, perhaps a 3 team deal --> Titans trade one of the firsts to TeamB. TeamB trades back 2nd and 3rd (whatever) to Titans --> Titans trade newly acquired 2nd to Jets for Wilkerson --> Titans defensive front rotation becomes Top5 in the league and should keep them competitive in most any game, at least personnel-wise. No doubt it's risky with regards to the money and overall fit for Wilkerson (he's a Jersey guy, through and through), but he's on the short list of elite players at a premium position and those guys just don't come available very often. I'd strongly consider it, given where the Titans are right now regarding the roster & money. Additionally, if Mo did become a Titan it should deliver another strong boost to the Titans' appeal to free agents over the next few years: the team is serious about acquiring talent and winning. Then again it does seem like it never worked out for teams in the past that traded picks for big contract players, the Skins being a perfect example. Yeah, this. In general I agree with the proposition that teams and esp fans way overvalue draft picks. But that said there is a reason teams build through the draft and not FA - these things have a history of usually not working out. You can at least say your odds of things working out with a draft pick are close to those of a big FA, and then when you bake in the difference in price, the age and wear and tear, it is clear why teams pass on giving up high draft picks for big FAs. pat
Trading for Mo means getting one year? And draft picks are four to five years? Mo is proven but he's also a guaranteed contract headache.
begooode
c'mon Pats. I think it's pretty well a given if major trade compensation were given for any potential FA, a long term contract for that FA would have to part of the deal.

I think a big part of it is rookies & young kids are trying to earn that big contract, they play like savages. Some FA's, certainly not all, but some, shut it down a bit when they get paid. It's a tough game, they're worn out & tired, they've been taking a beating for years, especially the OL, front 7, and backs. OL also tend to put on some weight as maybe they start enjoying the good life more, etc.
