Yeah, thank goodness we passed on Watt in the draft and went with a quarterback instead. Fuck ass.

The Texans gave up less points than all but 6 teams in the league & their defense is worse than ours sans Watt. Or at least almost as bad. I think people are missing the point here, nobody is

The Texans are a good example but actually in making the opposite point of the original post of this thread.  They evidently chose talent regardless of position by taking a defensive player, even when

I't's OK Mettenfluffer the Texans have done shit all with him!

FFS he led them to a number one overall pick and they drafted another DL!

No wonder they never win anything.

They have won 11 games in the last 2 years in the worst division in football.

In 2013, Watt recorded 65 solo tackles, 15 assisted tackles, seven passes defensed, 10.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.[24] The Texans, however, had a losing season and finished with a 2-14 record.[24] Watt was named to the 2014 NFL Pro-Bowl and was the Pro-Bowl Captain.[24

Where did the Saints finish, with one of the top 5 QBs in the league?

And Mariota is no Brees.

Well, he got a little more time to polish his ring. And Brees, when he came out of Purdue, wasn't even the Brees he would become in New Orleans.

The NFL of 2015 isn't the NFL of 1991. Defensive linemen don't win games. Linebackers don't win games. Cornerbacks dont win games. Runningbacks don't. Wide receivers don't either.

It's a QB's league, and the NFL wants high powered passing games and shootouts.

If you don't have the QB, you don't have anything.

No better proof of this than a putrid roster dominating our own division solely because of the QB.

In that same time frame, here is how the quarterbacks drafted in the first round have done. I've (subjectively) given my opinion of whether the pick was a good long-term decision with colors. Red being a bad pick, green being a good pick, and orange representing that the jury is still out. With quarterbacks drafted in the first round since 2011, only 2/12 led their teams to a better than .500 record last year. Tannehill led the Dolphins to a .500 record.

My point being that, while I of course agree that a franchise quarterback is the most important position on a team, taking one in the first does not fix that. They have to be the right guy...like really the right guy.

Jaguars - Bortles, finished 3-13 (Stats: 58.9% - 2,908 yds - 11 TD - 17 INT - 69.5 RTG)

Browns - Manziel, finished 7-9 (Stats: 51.4% - 175 yds - 0 TD - 2 INT - 42.0 RTG)

Vikings, Bridgewater, finished 7-9 (Stats: 64.4% - 2919 yds - 14 TD - 12 INT - 85.2 RTG)

Bills - Manuel, finished 9-7 (Stats: 58.6% - 2,810 yds- 16 TD- 12 INT - 78.5 RTG)

Colts - Luck, finished 11-5 (Stats: 61.7% - 4,761 yds - 40 TD - 16 INT - 96.5 RTG)

Redskins - Griffin, finished 4-12 (Stats 68.7% - 1,694 yds - 4 TD - 6 INT - 86.9 RTG)

Dolphins - Tannehill, finished 8-8 (Stats: 66.4% - 4,045 yds - 27 TD - 12 INT 92.8 RTG)

Browns - Wheeden, finished 7-9 (Stats: 58.5% - 303 yds - 3 TD - 2 INT - 85.7 RTG)
