Interesting.......seems like the media people who don't have mancrushes on Jake, and actually know the game, like what they saw.

Ross Tucker compared him to Drew Bledsoe and Kerry Collins which many of us have been saying.

Cosell said that Mettenberger played how he expected him to play, that he was a little slow with his reads and both Tucker and Cosell think that he will be a solid starter in the NFL.

Cosell also said that guys like Mettenberger type QB's are like dinosaurs but it doesn't mean that it's necessarily correct (meaning that the statue QB's can still be productive). He thinks that a guy like Mettenberger will make a throw that another QB wouldn't even attempt because he holds the ball longer.

Tucker also praised him for looking to his checkdowns when things weren't open downfield.

They both also discussed that Mettenberger will make a throw with guys in his face.

Tucker:

-  Mettenberger not afraid to stand in the pocket (after talking about how Russell Wilson typically doesn't).

-  Cites penalties nearly every drive during 1st half and how it was hard to get a feel for him.  Mentions constant pressure from Texan's front.  Likes that he stood in there and wasn't afraid of pressure.

-  References similarities to Collins/Bledsoe.  Those types of QBs can hold ball too long, but will often look for throws other's wont.

Cosell:

-  Mettenberger is a pure pocket QB.  Had some struggles that are very typical of pocket QBs in early starts

-  Going to make some throws other QB's won't even attempt (mentions Kaepernick).  Will stand in pocket until last possible second to look for any throw.  Granted, Mett can't run like Kaep.

-  Thought he played well for his first start.

-  Thinks he can be a quality NFL starter (so does Tucker).  Both cite his potential.

These guys did mention some legit issues though. With his height, slightly long delivery (I don't think it's that long), and lack of athleticism he is really going to have to work on his pocket mobility. Just the fact that he is willing to stand tall in the pocket like he does is a great sign though & he already shows some ability to slide around & avoid pass rushers. But he will have to work on it, because the pocket seems to almost converge on him at times when passing, which I've also read is an issue.

The games changed, it seems like the ideal QB now is almost a bit on the smaller side, like say 6'2 210, an Aaron Rodgers size, where he can be light & quick enough to avoid bad situations. But there's still guys like Manning & Rivers, classic QB's, playing as good as you can possibly play. I'm pretty psyched about this kid.

Do you recall what minute mark the Mettenberger discussion starts?
